Hello all. I’ve read countless things on this forum before but this is my first thread.

I’m interested to know to what extent it is appropriate to pray for something to happen in your life. I truly believe that I should accept whatever God has in store for me and he knows my future. So with that said, I have something that I would really like to happen but don’t know the best way to ask for it. God knows I have the best intentions in mind for my request, I just want to make sure my efforts are not an attempt to conflict with His plan.

Hopefully someone can chime in and help me out.

Thanks!

WC

You can pray for what you hope will occur, but add, “if this is Your loving will for me.”
Jesus prayed thus in the Garden of Olives. In this instance the first part of His request wasn’t granted, the second part was granted. God’s will was fulfilled.

Only God knows the hidden blessings and the hidden dangers of granting particular prayers, but we must pray for what we and others need, and work for them in a good, honest way, but trust in Him for the outcome that will be according to His loving purpose. If the outcome is not according to our wishes, then, as you say, we accept this outcome with trust in God.

May God grant your request, in compliance with all is for the true good of others and yourself, according to His loving purpose.

You can pray for your intention, but keep in mind to remember to say to God; your will not mine be done. God knows what’s best for you.

hi,
this question is an inquiry for myself AS WELL.it really needs an answer/ yet, i always have that sense of urgency and go to far for material things… ( related is another post as the atheistic view seemd to have been why pray at all-in context to specifics)

i should be thinking about this tonight/ meanwhile …the only thing, that i can show as evidence to hint at an answer… on universal appeal that visitors here to relate is that movie, 1946, with Jimmy Stewart, ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE…
-can’t remember exactly the ending; then i don’t spoil it-so my impressions of the movie, by memory…
disapointment is in the universe-plans are mixed with temptation-escape from a small town is impossible-bigger plans are diverted from the goal-(even death wishes happen)but it has a happy ending

so in short order-‘ring’ ring’ prayer is like that- i add-faith is can be by trial as though tested in fire…

meanwhile-other posters will have better ideas than me-

Thanks for all the responses!

It is just a little unsettling. I think it is important to note that what I pray for isn’t something that has a timeline. I just want it to happen sometime in my life. With that said, I could spend the next week or the next three years praying for something to happen. And while I am contempt with the fact that I will never know when it will happen, I don’t want all my prayers to be in vain. Plus I do want to respect God and His wishes.
