I think that what one should pray for is more that the mercy of God will prevail, and ask God for true forgiveness.
Sometimes one’s penance is to face the consequences of the sins…and do what is right to rectify the situation.
So we pray to God for the strength to face the challenges ahead, whatever they may be. I think it is human nature to pray that the consequences are negligible. That’s what children pray for. But as we mature, we must learn to pray for the wisdom and the courage to face whatever life dishes out as a result of our omission or commissions.
Might be a good question to direct to your spiritual director or confessor. With all things…pray, pray and pray some more.
Take it before adoration as well! God bless you.
