Praying in a Catholic way in an evangelical church prayer group

I attend a protestant prayer group weekly as part of my husband’s church. I go because I have friends there and think that prayer is a good thing to share. As I am journeying towards Catholicism, I have felt really prompted to pray in a more Catholic manner, making the sign of the cross in conclusion as I do in my private prayer, and even suggesting we say the Our Father together.

I haven’t so far acted on these thoughts, except to pray a silent sign of the cross discreetly, as I am wondering if it would be a case of inappropriately drawing attention to myself and how ‘holy’ I am, which is very far from what I want to do. But then again, are these thoughts perhaps suggestions from the Holy Spirit? Any ideas?

I occasionally visit other denomination churches. My advice - Be yourself.

If we have to worry about inappropriately drawing attention to ourselves, then how is that different to visiting a different parish where perhaps they don’t raise their arms during the Our Father?

We wouldn’t want to (uncharitably) suspect that others might be judging us or questioning our reverent piety when we genuflect or make the sign of the cross. And when I see Planet Shakers or other evangelical/charismatic worshippers I’m in awe of their joy.

I make the sign of the cross when praying with Protestants. There are some Protestants who also make the sign of the cross.

As a Protestant, I wouldn’t see anything wrong with you crossing yourself, and the “Our Father” is very Biblical and not distinctly “Catholic.” If you brought out “Hail Mary” and “Salve Regina,” that would be another story…
