I don’t believe our friend Mr. Jey is really a Catholic.

:tsktsk: I do believe the Bible forbids lying.
But then, he hasn’t really read the bible either. Otherwise, he would know there are no passages referring to prayer beads,

`No catholic is forced to pray the rosary.

The rosary is a tool used in prayer.

Do you not think that your Father in heaven is well pleased with the person who will discipline themselves in time and energy to complete the rosary each day with love in their hearts or for a specific reason? I think yes.

Then again, would He not be just as pleased with tearful sobbed spontaneous prayers that may last hours or even seconds if all they that they are as “please please please Lord”. I think yes, also.

If you have doubts about the beads, put them away; give them away; just respect the intent behind the beads; do not throw them in the trash. At the least, leave them in a church.

But reconsider all the pagan rooted names, celebrations, items, we use all the time. None are evil onto themselves.

As for your doubts about certain catholic teachings, I would familiarize yourself with just how few “dogmas” there really are in catholic teachings. There are lots of doctrines, and theologies, traditions, rites, but few hard and fast dogma. If you can accept the dogma, then there is no need to leave the catholic church.

If you do, this one catholic(who has one foot in the catholic church and the other in the evangelic church) will pray that your know that God will never leave you nor forsake you, whereever you will be.

I’m a Roman catholic, but after I have read the Bible , I doubt the catholic beliefs. Although, there mentioned about Mary -She will be called the Mother -, which was mentioned once. I always read about praying to the Father in Jesus name. Why do we have to pray the rosary which is made of bead and repetitive prayers? It was mentioned many times about the pagan praying using beads and repetitive prayers. It also mentioned that God already knows your need that you don’t need to pray repetitively. There is nothing in the Bible that says you have to go through Mary to seek or ask the Father? Can somebody explain this clearly to me.

Thank you 🙂
Read Luke 18:1-8 about the Parable of the **Persistent **Widow. Our Lord Jesus told that the judge in the parable did not fear God, nor did he care about people. He did not live by the laws that govern righteous and moral conduct.

But, the widow must have been strong. She was persistent. She kept** going** to the judge, repeating herself and **asking **for justice against an adversary. Even though the judge did not care about her or about keeping God’s laws, he finally gave her justice because he was afraid that she would wear him out with her persistence.

As the parable says, those who pray (cry out day and night to Him), will see what they ask for.

If those people influencing you suggest something on “crying out day and night” to God and not repeating themselves in the process, we’ll be happy to follow.

Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving and Supplication prayers need not be outlandish, but simple like The Chaplet of the Divine Mercy as suggested by Jude child. This “repetitive” prayer moves. It sure moved me every time I sing with it and believe me I can go all day with this song.

I laugh at the accusations regarding pagan holidays. It is the aim of Christianity to bring all things to Christ, baptizing it and making it holy and unto God.

Christianity has done this, certainly in the western world. To reject this is to reject what Christianity has done in the world and to attempt to reverse the good.

I believe that this is caused by spiritual jealousy, which just happens to be the theme of this Sunday’s Liturgy readings::

The Lord then came down in the cloud and spoke to him. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, he bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied. Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp. So, when a youn man quickly told Moses, ‘Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp,’ Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’ aide, said, ‘Moses, my lord, stop them.’ But Moses answered him, ‘Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all!’" (Numbers 11:25-29)

*…“Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.” * (James 5: 4)

These people reap the benefits of those who labored for God, but, revile it, and seek to destroy all that has been done. They of course are being duped into this by the devil, but, nevertheless, one would think people so much more “in tune” with God would recognize His stamp in the world.

I am sorry if this sounds bitter. I’m just getting fed up with the same old tired lines. :dts:

Why do we need to pray to Jesus through Mary’s intercession. Will Jesus not acknowledge our prayer to Him without going through Mary?

I know that praying the rosary is meditating the passion of Christ, but why do we need to do this , when we think of Him , we always remember His Passion on the cross.

N2-We still need to pray , because the Father wanted us to come to Him and not just do nothing if we were to ask something from Him.In fact,if we are persistent in our prayer for something that we wish , He would give it. I had experienced it.

Estesbob- I do believe in praying for someone , and I believe there’s no problem with that, however, we can still go through the Father in with fulll trust in Jesus name.

Judechild-thank you for your help

We do not come to the Father for asking anything, but also to praise and glorify Him which is a must of every creation…is that correct?

I’m a catholic, like I said, but you know after I have watched the 700 club and was amazed by true to life story, I started reading thoroughly the Bible which I didn’t do before.Day after day after reading every page of the Bible , I see myself coming nearer to God and knowing Him better. Now my trust , although not 100%-since we’re just human. And after reading the Bible , all these questions comes into my mind. The reason, why I joined this forum to be clarified. Can anybody give me a concrete verse in the Bible that says we have to meditate on Christ passion because just hearing His name, that’s the first thing that will come to us -His Holy Passion on the cross. And on every letter of the Apostles, it always mentioned about praying to the Father , in Jesus name, that we have to go through Jesus to reach the Father. It’s the famous verse of John:13.

It’s also through that show that my illness was immediately cured. Same with my son and our dog. Imagined , I was watching the show and the host mentioned about my illness because it had been a problem to me for quite sometime and when the host start praying, I was surprised that he mentioned about my illness saying"somebody is watching right now with… and praying together in front of the television and the next day I was healed. My wish of job was given, too . I was jobless for 4 months and by Oct 5, I will be starting a new job.

I don’t know if this is just a coincidence or my trust to the Lord gave me what I wish for.

We’re not arguing, okay? …just some clarification…okay:)

In our union with Christ it is not an either/or situation, but a both-and one. We are together in Him in our access to the Father and since also in Him we enjoy communion with one another, including “our brothers and sisters who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith” we are also able to turn to them for their assistance with our prayers. Being in Christ we are in union with all that is His - including His Mother who is also our own.

Far from distracting us from love of the Most Holy Trinity, our unity within the Communion of Saints - and most especially with Mary! - only fosters greater attentiveness to living faithfully in His Light. If we choose to ignore her we are diminishing the potential of our spiritual lives to know Christ more deeply through attentiveness to the one who desires nothing more than to see us grow in His likeness. If we ignore her and try to diminish her role in salvation history we are missing-out on the love of a child for his mother and the love of a mother for her child, for that is who she truly is - your mother, my mother, our mother in Christ. From my own experience, I know the closer I get to her, the more Our Lord comes into focus in my life. She sees in you/us the image of her Son and thus loves us tenderly with the same heart that held Our - and her - Savior in its care.

If you beleive that it is derisous to have someone pray for you then you should have no problem with someone asking for the Mohter of God pray for them or someone they love.

What the Rosary does for me is helps me set aside 20 minutes a day where i intensely meditate on moments in the Life of Our Lord and Savior. You may not find this meanigful or helpful which is no problem as the Church in no ways requires us to say the Rosary

The Second Luminous mystery(the Wedding Feast at Canna) ,BTW, highlights one of the advantages of asking Mary to pray for us.

All the better then to have other join in our prayers, wouldnt you agree?

Be careful that you do not trade the turth for emotion. Read about the lives of the Saints-their stories are much more profound than that that you find on the 700 club.

As far as coinicdence-in speaking to an audiecne of several million does it surpise that a few of them(even yourself) may have been in the circumstance menioned? Do you really beleive that Pat Robertson was speaking directly to you when he talked about this? And to be blunt-did he appeal for money after taking care of “your” problems?

As a Catholic you have an opportunity to hold our Lord and Savior in your hands and consme his body. Are you really considering trading this for the cheap thrills of a TV show?

So, you were healed through intercessory prayer of someone on the show? Is that what you are telling us?

You saw a true to life story? Would you mind sharing the details of the story? Are you now rejecting the authority of the Church because you were healed as the result of watching a show with people in opposition of the Catholic Church? Gee, I know people healed instantly through intercession of other Catholics. Why are the Catholics wrong and the 700 club right when healings come through both methods?

I have a hunch, if you are truly Catholic as you say you are, that you called the number and began to talk to someone on the prayer line or something. They found out you are Catholic and are very convincing in their arguments against our methods. That was all it took to convince you.

Are you aware that St. Benedict raised a boy from the dead? That his enemies could not manage to poison him, or bring him to harm? The Holy Spirit is very generous. It is we who are spiritually jealous. Even the devil can heal, you know. Be careful you are not the one being deceived. The one being deceived does not realize he is being decieved until the damage is done.

Hi Jey,

I’ve been there and I did not find an answer. You can boldly approach the throne of God anytime you wish to. He is the One to forgive your sins and He is the One who answers your prayers.
I have not used a preformed prayer in a while now and I honestly do not miss it. I can open my heart and praise God, thank Him, worship Him, confess my sins to Him, intercede for others with Him and ask Him directly for my needs. Whatever I do, God is part of my life. It took me a while to start and openly pray, because I was so used to repetition… There is no wrong prayer and if you earnestly pray it is good.
You do not need to ask Mary, but you can however ask your friends to pray for you as you pray for them…

I will pray for you.
God bless you,
Janet

It does seem very uncertain, doesn’t it? While someone prays for us, who do we pray for?

😛
Them. It’s a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” thingy. 😃

If repetitious prayers, like what is claimed about the Rosary are ineffective, why should someone have to pray for any particular thing more than once?

And, if praying for others and having others pray for us is ineffective, why bother with communal prayer?

I didn’t know that you have to pray more than once. I know communal prayers are repeated, but I don’t do much of those.

I have prayed the Our father many times, but it makes reference to the day, there are many days.

I am Ms. Jey and a catholic covered by Holy Family Parish in our community. Actually, a lot of Filipinos are changing to Victory Christian church ( I think that’s how they are called). Perhaps, I’ll be one of them …one of these days.

Thank you Janet, that’s how I understand it.

I didn’t called any of the numbers, but because of my intense wish to cure my illness during those periods. As I was watching the show, I heard my situation, not only once, but thrice. My son healed on his illness and our dog, because I don’t have money -I was jobless for 4 months and depend on Him for all the things that I need. It was so surprising that God sustained us. I have one brother and my son for my responsibility. I didn’t worry about the foods to eat and other expenses. I just leave it to the Lord and it was so amazing, that all needs were met. Now, after 4 months I’ll be getting a new job.

Don’t you think that’s a great news of faith and trust. It’s my own life that I want to share.

Actually because of me getting closer to God, I threw all my tarot cards. I have 2 sets of tarot deck. I used to read tarots and was so fascinated by astrology, numerology and the like. Now, I’m trying to get rid of it one by one. I trashed my tarot decks and don’t read anymore.🙂

Is there anybody who’s suspicious of my belief , after my experiences?

I’m sorry , but I don’t know Pat Robertson. The host I’m telling you are Filipinos. I don’t know . I can’t express well everything that I want to say. Maybe, if you were on my situation and you see that there are miracles happening. …because it happened to me and I want to share it.

You do not need to ask Mary, but you can however ask your friends to pray for you as you pray for them…
Saint Mary Mother Of God is righteous, your friends are NOT righteous.
Romans 3:10
As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
Although the Catholics do have an argument that there can be righteous humans here on earth, Saint Mary Mother Of God and anyone else in heaven is DEFINITELY more RIGHTEOUS than any sinner on earth.
Proverbs 15:29
The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
Isaiah 59:2
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
Micah 3:4
Then they will cry out to the LORD, but he will not answer them.
At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done.
Job 35:12-13
He does not answer when men cry out because of the arrogance of the wicked.
Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea; the Almighty pays no attention to it.
Jeremiah 14:10-12
This is what the LORD says about this people: “They greatly love to wander;
they do not restrain their feet. So the LORD does not accept them;
he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.”
Then the LORD said to me, “Do not pray for the well-being of this people.
Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”

Jesus Christ came to us in the flesh through the womb of the Virgin Mary. It is meet and right to ask her to pray for us.

I have been in your situation.I can tell you of miracles in my life that i still hold in awe-the most important beng 26 years of sobriety after years of being a falling down drunk. I can tell you of the miracles i have seen the Lord work in other lives-all, like mine, that came through direct intercession of prayers by myself and others, often asking for the intercession of Mary of the Saints.

I know firsthand the power of the Rosary. I know firsthand the joy of recieving our Lords Body and blood(i did so about an hour ago). I would not trade the joy of beng a member of the Catholic Church for physical health, riches or anything else.

I still don’t understand why you would leave the Church. It sounds as though you are looking for rationalization, for excuses. I suspect you don’t go to your parish very often, much less do you understand the Faith. Perhaps you are lonely, and those people at that church seem friendly. I think that is the main reason why people leave the Church for these a la carte churches. You get fussed over for a little while.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from that church is wining and dining you, and you take this incident as a rationalization of dumping the Church. Well, that is your prerogative, as are the consequences. You sound as if your mind is made up. Is it?

I am Ms. Jey and a catholic covered by Holy Family Parish in our community. Actually, a lot of Filipinos are changing to Victory Christian church ( I think that’s how they are called). Perhaps, I’ll be one of them …one of these days.
What does that have to do with Jey’s deceitful claim that the bible has many passages condemning the use of prayer beads, when there actually aren’t any at all?

Many Filipinos are leaving the Catholic faith because they don’t know anything about it, so they are easily deceived by Evangelicals. I know this because my wife is Filipina and we go there every year (we own a beach house near Laoag City in Illocos Norte). The state of catechesis in the Philippines is even worse than it is here in the States.

Try going to mass and listen very carefully, and follow along with the missal. You will see that all of your objections are merely misunderstandings.
