Praying in my sleep

I woke up praying this morning. I had been praying in my sleep. It was the prayer Father does after Communion: Oh Sacrament Most Holy. Has this happened to anyone? My sponsor says it was the Holy Spirit.

Never happened to me that I know of. I don’t remember my dreams.

Congratulations on the new violin! I play, too, and I love my violin! It’s new, too. Got it as a present for my birthday. I love the violin!
 
I sometimes fall asleep praying and just continue on waking. I don’t think I’ve ever randomly prayed something new on waking though. I do wake up sometimes with a hymn playing in my head.

Thanks Jeanne :D. It’s a really secure feeling when God is even there when we sleep. I grew up “knowing” that, but it’s even more awesome when you experience it.
 
I’m going to throw a wrench in this one, which will probably upset a lot of you.

No, I don’t believe one can pray in his sleep, just as one cannot sin in his sleep.

It’s the flip side of the same coin. The will is inoperative.

Not to say God cannot make use of what’s happening when one sleeps, but I would not go so far to call it “prayer” in the real sense.
 
I have heard of people waking up singing the Credo. It was probably just you thinking about it rather than the Holy Ghost.
 
I’ve fallen asleep praying a rosary, then wake up seemingly continuing it as though I never fell asleep. I imagine I have prayed in my sleep…when I wake up feeling less troubled than when I dropped off.

I often go to sleep praying and keeping the rosary close to me. So I do wake up with a prayer in my mind and on my lips.

One morning a few years ago when I was trying to get back to the church after being lukewarm for many years… I woke up saying that part of the mass after the Our Father…

** … In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. **

My eyes opened wide and I repeated over and over, “Wait in joyful hope for the coming of the Lord!” At that time it was kind of scary because I didn’t know if I was ready for the coming of the Lord!!! and in that case, how could I wait in JOYFUL hope… ??? I think it MUST have been the Holy Spirit because that wouldn’t have been one of my normal prayers…
 
Father was happy, my sponsor was happy, I woke UP happy…works for me. Good luck with coin flipping 😀
 
Scripture says, “God bestows gifts on His beloved while they slumber.”
I don’t know the exact chapter and verse.

Yes, it does happen. Nothing is impossible with God.
