I am a little confused about praying in times of trial. If God is testing my faith to produce perserverance, and I pray that this trial be taken, aren’t I praying for something against His will rather than rejoicing in my suffering. And how am I supposed to discern between God testing me and the devil tempting me.

I think because we can’t always know the reason for the trial, whether it is a sanctioned test or whether we are under spiritual attack, we are to pray for relief, if it is God’s will.

Even Christ prayed for the cup to be passed, but he then submitted to his Father’s will.

Ultimately, we don’t know until we pray. It’s part of our battle plan. I can’t say that I completely understand it, I don’t think any of us do, we just are told to ask to be relieved of our trials and leave it to the will of God.

Hope this helps some.

Well strangely enough that’s part of the mental anguish, the not knowing.
Jesus prayed to the Father for the cup to pass Him bye, “but not my will but thine be done”.
Everytime the devil tempts you, you are being tested, everytime your being tested, it’s the devil tempting you, "before a man is fire and water, whatever he chooses shall be given to him."

I have to heartily endorse the other posters here - in times of trial we must pray exactly as Jesus did, that the suffering be removed if it is God’s will, or that we summon up the strength to bear it that be his will.

God Bless all,
Jesus prayed that the cup be taken from him but he also prayed that God’s Holy Will be done. I think we can take our cue from that. 👍
It definitely is not easy. But " His burden is light and His yoke is easy" I think that means that if you accept His path that all needs will be taken care of especially spritual growth as well as temporal needs.
I suggest a decade of the rosary meditating on the agony in the garden- it may help.
God Bless, Cheryl:)
