I’ve come to like praying the D.M.C. I pray it along with my rosary each day. I want to do two or three at a time because so many people are in need of prayers.

Must I repeat the “O Blood and Water” (x3), the Our Father, Hail Mary and Creed each time, and the ending prayers, or can I do the said prayers at the beginning, then do 15 decades or so and then say the closing prayers?

Thank you

David

It is a devotion, not a liturgical prayer; there are no rubrics our regulations, so you may do as you wish.

I want to do two or three at a time because so many people are in need of prayers.
I just offer it for three things/groups:-
  1. For all the sinners in the world as that includes everyone, and God knows what is most needed and what is best for each person at any given moment in time,
  2. I also offer it for those who are to die in the coming 24hrs to ask for mercy at their judgement,
  3. and lastly I offer it to ask for mercy for all the suffering souls in purgatory to be freed from their pains.
IMO, I would just pray the O.F. and the H.M. and the Creed, then the 5 decades with the final 3 closing prayers. ← this is what the Chaplet consists of. It is my understanding the 3 o’clock prayer is separate to the Chaplet. I also don’t see why one couldn’t just say “I offer this chaplet for … and their needs” type of thing. But if you want to pray more than one chaplet, then I think the whole thing would need to be prayed.

Unlike the rosary where one could say only 5 decades or all 20 before the Hail Holy Queen etc.

First, when you’re praying the Divine Mercy chaplet by yourself, it’s a private devotion and there’s no required form as long as you pray reverently.

Second, as I understand it, all the opening prayers (the “You expired…” the “O Blood and Water…” 3x, and the Our Father/ Hail Mary Creed) are optional. I suspect they may have been added because the Divine Mercy is said on a regulary rosary and people wanted to have prayers to say on the beginning beads of the Rosary before one starts with the decades, and then a prayer at the end on the crucifix similar to Rosary closing prayers. So there is no real requirement that you say these prayers at the beginning and end of the five decades, or even that you say them at all.

Third, there’s no real reason to have a set number of decades. It’s not like the Rosary where you are saying one decade per holy mystery and you have 5 mysteries per set of mysteries. You could conceivably just say as many decades of the Divine Mercy as you wanted. Again I think they use 5 mainly because people are saying it on a regular 5 decade rosary.

So in short - I don’t see a problem with the way you want to pray the Divine Mercy. Your intention of more prayers to help more people is certainly a good one. I say go for it.

I’m pretty sure God won’t “cancel out” your devoted and sincere voluntary prayers because you did them “wrong”. 🙂❤️
