Hello everyone!

This is an very embarrassing question for me to ask, so thank-you for your time and opinions.

I have been occasionally taking off my clothes in the privacy of my room in order to pray nude. Though I would never recommend this practice to any one else, it makes me feel more vulnerable, grateful, and intimate when I pray. What are your opinions on this?

PS
I’ve asked this question before, but I probably phrased it to explicitly (ie too much information) so it was removed.

Thank-you and God bless you all.

In the Irish climate and with three large cats who love to walk on me when I am not moving, and at my advanced age not an attractive or modest way to be.:eek:

Well, it does seem to be a bit odd to me, but since it’s in a private setting and your attitude is prayerful and humble, I don’t see an objection offhand.

Closest I’ve come to that is when I say the Divine Mercy Chaplet when I’m in the shower.

There is no dress code for praying. You can pray sitting on the toilet or in the shower or without clothes in the privacy of your home.

I meaaaan it’s odd I have to admit but… There’s nothing inherently wrong with it sooooo I can’t really say anything negative about it. To each his own, right?

Yeah, I mean…It’s definitely an odd practice, but I guess as long as you’re not sexualizing it, it’s fine?

Yeah, that’s basically my feeling, too. I have prayed in other contexts when I’m partially or fully undressed, but I haven’t undressed specifically to pray. But if it truly enriches your spiritual life, then I think it’s probably fine.

I like to pray while I’m in the shower, I have to take longer showers to keep hot water on my back as it’s one of the only things that helps me walk. I don’t see much difference. Go for it! God just wants to hear from you! I don’t think He cares what you are or are not wearing.

How bored does a person have to be to THINK of this question, and then come to CAF and actually create a poll to find out what other people think about it?

I used to have a little hope left for CAF. You have confirmed for me that that hope was foolish. I thank you.

God knows what you look like naked, your doing it for yourself, your feelings. I suggest you just pray with reverence and don’t obsess about being naked. Plus I don’t want to be thinking about people praying in the nude. Also, God can wait till your done in the bathroom.

Praying for you all:)

Since I pray all the time in all kinds of situations I’ve likely been naked or half dressed during a prayer at some points. In my case it’s probably happened when I was in a hurry and praying while dressing or showering, or I was sleeping in the buff and happened to say a prayer in bed, or I got ill and took off my clothes because I was running a fever and felt hot or was having messy issues with bodily fluids. It’s not a ritual thing where I get into my birthday suit especially to pray.

God’s looking at your soul, not your skin…just keep the door locked! 🙂

No doubt He can, but sometimes when I am being violently ill in there I can’t wait to ask Him “Please God, I’m so sick, make this stop, make me well.”

Or when someone has just died and I find myself crying in the shower like Glenn Close in “The Big Chill” and talking to God.

In the shower or bath, yes. Otherwise? No, not for me. I’m not saying that it’s wrong, just not something I’d be comfortable doing.

Why would it be wrong? He made our skin, and must like to see it, else why all the differing colors?

God commanded the Children of Israel to
make the Altar on the ground and not w/
steps up to it lest He sees their nakedness,
See Exodus 20:26
to pray to God w/ the shirt off is Okay for
a man but nakedness is NOT akin to Holiness.

For real.

I remember one of my teachers telling a story about when he got food poisoning while traveling. Pretty good time to beg mercy, I think!

Why do you post in column form? Just curious.
