Praying Rosary of the Holy Wounds

Sorry, CAF Managers - I saw a new sub-forum started recently on suggestions for personal ways to pray. Couldn’t find it this morning, so I hope you can re-direct this and me to where it is !

**Suggestion for Praying the Rosary of the Holy Wounds **(not to be confused with Divine Chaplet of Mercy)
We’re told this short chaplet, meditating on Our Lord’s Wounds, is very beneficial for the Souls in Purgatory. Since it has five decades, it’s easy to consider the Five Wounds (2 Hands, 2 Feet and Side pierced with a lance).

However, I look at Our Lord’s picture suffering and imagine/contemplate: (1) the thorns in His Head (which were not superficial but deep); (2) the sounds of the lashes on His Back;
(3) the sounds of the hammering of nails through His Wrists and Feet into the wood of the Cross. (4) Also, contemplating what we’re told was one of Our Lord’s greatest Wounds - His Shoulder on which He carried the Cross. Hearing these sounds in your mind creates a fearful picture of what Our Lord suffered for us - and in silence.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, to heal the wounds of our souls.
My Jesus, pardon and mercy, through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.

Forgive my lack of understanding, I’ve never prayed this before. So, you pray…

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, to heal the wounds of our souls. My Jesus, pardon and mercy, through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.”

…on each bead as you contemplate the five wounds accordingly? Is there a different prayer for the “Our Father” beads?

This seems to be a beautiful devotion, especially during Lent.

There are four lines prayed before beginning the beads. (See link below.)
Then - on the Our Father beads:
“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, to heal the wounds of our souls.”

On the Hail Mary beads:
“My Jesus, pardon and mercy, through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.”

As for contemplation, instead of just looking or thinking about Our Lord’s Wounds, I just imagine the sounds there must have been during Our Lord’s scourging and Crucifixion. (Not at any particular part of the Rosary - just as I say the prayers. It’s frightening to hear even in one’s mind but gives me a better way of understanding and not just looking at pics of Our Lord’s sufferings.

I’ve said the prayers of this chaplet for years (even when not saying an entire chaplet, it’s good to keep these lines in mind for the poor souls, I’d think). I only became more aware of Chaplet of Divine Mercy - after coming to CAF. While I’d seen the picture of Sacred Heart w/rays and even had the Chaplet on back of pic, I didn’t become acquainted with it. This one’s shorter and easier to remember. I love it.

Yes, frightening indeed. :crying: Since seeing The Passion of the Christ a few years ago, I now pray the sorrowful mysteries of the Rosary with new pictures in my mind. It does seem that for me, having an image to picture helps me to focus more clearly on the mysteries themselves, so I understand what you mean about the sounds. :bowdown:
