Okay so I’m doing a devotion to Mary right now. Five months, first Saturday of the month with confession, communion, rosary, and meditation. Tonight I said rosary along with TV on EWTN, and…well…it was interesting. I didn’t think I was able to focus on the mystery and meditate on it. On the other hand, the pictures were nice and clearly illustrated the mystery. Mother Angelica said prayers at a nice slow pace too.

Does anyone else pray the rosary with TV?

Yes, I have prayed the rosary along with Mother Angelica loads of times 👍

I recorded it for 4 days when I was first learning the Rosary mysteries so I’d have one episode for each set. Eventually I got to the point where I had them memorized and wanted to go a little faster than the pace the sisters use, but it was a great way to start the daily habit

I do from time to time. I don’t think it is any more effective than praying the rosary, let’s say, privately at home.

I learned how to reduce the distractions during prayer by saying the prayers more slowly, like Mother Angelica does. I don’t care for how the nuns drag out the prayer in sort of a sing-song fashion on TV.

(God has done a big work through Mother Angelica, but I don’t like how EWTN is almost “selling” Mother Angelica. They are now trying to paste her image everyplace they can on EWTN. When Mother finally passes away, I believe EWTN has all the paperwork ready to file for her canonization. don’t believe me, but watch what happens. I am not a member of the cult of Mother Angelica. God bless those who are. I am sure there are many other holy people besides her. You don’t need an organization and a campaign to get to heaven. )

But, I recommend saying the rosary in whatever way makes it as prayerful for you as possible.

I am a guy, and I prefer to have the most beautiful rosary I can find, for free if possible. I just keep picking up free rosaries until I have a rosary everyplace I need one.

Thank you to the devoted people who provide them.

I keep trying to pray along with Mother Angelica and the Sisters, when I’m off on weekends, but the Sisters, almost always, have me dozing off 🙂 and I wake up and start again. :o

I prefer the one that is done on Saturday or Sunday at 3:30 PM, and taped it on my DVR. Now I can pray it anytime. The gentleman who leads it is much better. He closes with prayers to St. Michael and St. Joseph. In this way, I can stay more focused when someone else is leading it. There is no tape for the Luminous mysteries by him, but I have the other three.

And it goes faster than Mother A who takes up the entire half hour.
I absolutely LOVE the Hail Mary that is sung at the end. I find myself singing it prayerfully throughout my day. Beautiful!

Yes, I forgot about that one. Is that the one with the stained glass images?
Then there’s the Rosary from the Holy Land. Fr. Mitch goes at a pretty good clip. 🙂

Yes, but they have changed it from a female to a man who now leads it. It used to irritate me a little because the background music is rather loud, but I guess I’m used to it now and it doesn’t distract me.

This may sound strange, but I have played my tape so often that I have this man’s voice in my memory, with all his nuances, so that when I pray it in Church, I replay the tape in my mind to keep me focused. There is a lot of distraction in Church before Mass begins, so my pre-recorded tape works well for me. [He whistles when he says full of “grace.” :D]

😃 That’s great! Funny how things stick in our heads like that.

I know, sirach2v4, they really do up Mother A big time. But you have to remember all she has done down there in Alabama. Not many stations bring Masses from the Vatican, or World Youth Day coverage like they do.
Awesome stuff.🙂

In my town there is an EWTN radio affiliate that carries EWTN over over-the-air radio, and I try to follow along with that.

They carry Mother Angelica’s rosary in the morning, and a different version at night, led by a Catholic priest. I try to be home for the night version and I regret when I have to miss it.

And, of course, if someone’s willing to go through the trouble they can buy audio or video copies from EWTN.

Although I don’t pray along with it, Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s Holy Land Rosary is one of my favorites. It takes you to the actual places where these mysteries took place and it really gets my mind to thinking. In The First Joyful Mystery for instance, we see the famous graffiti scrawled by an early pilgrim paying homage to the Blessed Virgin; “XE MAPIA,” Scratched on the base of a column appeared the Greek characters XE MAPIA, translated as: “Hail Mary”. This inscription is the oldest of its kind known to exist.

Also intriguing is the Fourth Joyful Mystery, where Fr. Mitch stands on the ancient stairway to the temple. Mary and Joseph walked up these very steps for the Presentation of Jesus. Fr. Pacwa’s Holy Land Rosary makes me long to go their and see these places that Jesus and Mary walked. It would be life changing to say the least. I’m sure that once you returned, saying the Rosary would never be the same!..youtube.com/watch?v=wtyWoskCAzY

Peace, Mark

I don’t pray the rosary along with a TV recording but have several CDs instead, so I can listen to the rosary and unite myself to it.

I do not pray the rosary per se, but I often listen to Mother Angelica and the Sisters. I just let my thoughts go where ever they please, but seldom do they stray too far away from meditative prayers, if you can call them prayers; it’s spiritual, in any event. I find the actual recitations of the rosary to be very monotonous, to the point of being very aversive. I know it may have Satanic influences, but I really do try to focus on my inner voices.

I, too, struggled with the Rosary, and most other devotional prayers, when I first coverted, but after a while you begin to love to it for what it is.
It might help to try starting with the Creed, the Our Father, and three Hail Marys for a time.
Just say that part once or twice a day, until your ready to consider the Mysteries, Maybe one a day, until it starts to be a habit.

I think, if you take a few moments to reflect on how beautiful, poetic, and profound the Hail Mary prayer really is, and that it comes from Luke’s Gospel, you’ll find it a joy to repeat.

I think any satanic influences “run and hide” at the sound of the Rosary. :yup:
That’s a good reason why it’s helpful, at times, to have an image to look at to keep you focused on the Mystery at hand, like those on TV.
