Praying Rosary with St. Benedict Rosary Beads?

I hope this is the right place to ask this question, and I did a search of the forum and couldn’t find anything. I couldn’t find anything on the internet either.

I just started praying the Rosary, which I have found to be astoundingly powerful. The beads I got were the St. Benedict ones, which I was drawn to as I have used the Medal of St. Benedict with the prayer when using sacramentals (long story).

Anyway, I know that the St. Benedict Rosary is slightly different. Am I correct in assuming that I can petition St. Benedict after saying The Our Father? In other words, can I turn the small crucifix over to the medal side, pray a petition, and proceed with the next decade?

PS. I’m still getting used to the cross with the Corpus. It’s a very strong reminder of the price Christ paid for redeeming us from sin, conquering death, a reminder of what it means to carry our own cross, how dangerous entanglement with sin can really be, etc. I prefer it to the bare “he-is-risen-so-it’s-like-almost-nothing-happened-so-no-big-deal-anyway” Protestant cross (sorry for any offense taken by my fellow Protestants).

First off, praying the rosary is an excellent way to sustain your prayer life as you advance and learn more about the Church. Know that I will be praying with you in this regard as I offer my rosary each day.

Second, there isn’t a “St. Benedict rosary” as such, just rosary beads with St. Benedict medals on them. You can get rosaries with virtually any saint medals on them, even medals of Popes–these are popular souvenirs in Rome or of Papal visits, and a good reminder to pray for the Holy Father. You can get rosaries with no decoration whatsoever–I have plain wooden rosaries and knotted cord ones as well. So there aren’t any specific prayers that change with whatever the rosary has on it, but you are of course free to invoke St. Benedict or whatever other saint you’d like when you pray the rosary. It is a private devotion, and so there isn’t a “right” or “wrong” way to pray it. There are a lot of customary methods, but there isn’t a law as such on how to pray it.

Thank you for that Edward. My mistake. In any case I would like to petition St. Benedict at that point (I need it).

Thank you for praying for me. I need all the help I can get (this is somewhat of a dark hour of my life, and is a burden allowed by the Lord Jesus Christ to, in part, draw me to the Church).
