Over and over I pray the Psalms in the LOTH Roman Christian Prayer book… Some I understand, some are very complicated for me… Does anyone know of a good book explaining each Psalm that we pray so I could learn to understand these Psalms… Thanks for any help…

I know what you mean; I will refer to my bibles footnotes that often helps.

Yes. Catholic Book Publishing Company, the same company that publishes Christian Prayer has a little green book called the “NCV Pslams”. The translation is better than the Grail you will find in the LOTH and it comes with a lot of commentary for each one. I’ve found the commentary to be pretty orthodox in what I have read. I think it costs somewhere around 5 or 6 dollars.

There’s also a book called “The School of Prayer, An Introduction to the Divine Office for all Christians”.

I’ve just begun praying the LOTH and that has been very helfpul. Part 2 contains a commentary on the Pslams

It is by John Brook, ISBN 0814620282, published in the USA by Liturgical Press, Collegeville, Minnesota in 1992.

Yes, Singing in the Reign is about the psalms and their meaning, context, type. the title sounds like Scott Hahn but I think he wrote the intro, I can’t remember the author.

The text book used at my seminary for our Psalms class was “The Spirituality of the Psalms” by Father Carroll Stuhlmueller.

Book Description

The psalms offer a harmony to life and a rhythm that keeps us peacefully in tune with the intense fervor of life. In The Spirituality of the Psalms, Carroll Stuhlmueller, C.P., looks at the structure of the psalms to explain how they can have bearing in our lives today. He describes how we can apply the psalms to our spiritual lives and integrate the psalms in the Church’s prayer life and ministry.
