Praying the Rosary for a happy death

Yesterday, I was showing a video clip of my grandma who was still alive 2 months ago to a friend of mine. In the video, there was a priest from my grandma’s parish (in Vietnam); he told my mom that at the last hour of death, it is very scary to the dying and that we should pray a lot.

In the last few days of my grandma’s life, she didn’t know much anymore but she had always been able to recognize the Eucharist - Her face had changed from a face of a dying to a face of a happy person after receiving the Communion.

My grandma seemed to know that her moment was coming. Three days before she passed away, she told my mom “it is time to go to God’s home”. My mom asked her why she knew; she replied, “God told me!”. Few hours later, she asked my mom “Is God’s home far”, and my mother replied “It is very near here”.

My grandmother had spent the last 30 years of her life going to church at her parish from Monday to Sunday and praying the Rosary daily. She was able to receive the Communion the night she passed away. Another blessing moment, my mother saw her last 3 breaths- very gentle ones!

I thank God she had a blessing death and that my mom was able to be with her during her last moment to pray for her.

Water, My mom died a couple of weeks ago.I have been taking care of her for the last 13 months. I was able to take her to Mass every sunday up until the last few months, she was on oxygen and not able to journey far from home for long amounts of time, but was able to watch Holy Mass on EWTN. Our parish priests were so good to her in those last months. Just stopping by to bring her communion and checking on us to see if they could do anything for us. It was a very hard time, and yet also very fulfilling. My mom was suffering very much the last few days. I knew her time was neear, so I didn’t leave much for 3 days. Mom has been praying the holy rosary all of her life. Even after her strokes she was insistent on having her rosary with her, she prayed along with mother Angelica as best she could So I know that one of the promises to those who pray the rosary is that they will not die a violent death. That Christ will send His choirs of angels at the hour of our death to lead us to Him. And that is exactly what happened to my Mom. She died very early in the morning (4a.m.), she had been struggling to breath for the last 3 hours of her life. She was on morphine to help with the breathing but nothing seemed to be helping. She did a lot of whispering to me in those last minutes, she basically had me by the front of the shirt, I was a very captive audience. The last thing she said to me was " I can’t do this anymore" so I let her go by telling her I would be OK. I told her I would count to three and we would be done with this… I counted to three and she laid her head back on her pillow… It was very quiet, it was very peaceful in her home, I prayed for the Lord to please take her. I started to pray the chaplet of the Divine Mercy, we waited, and moments before she took her last breath the back door on her house opened up. It just swung open very softly and came to rest against the wall, and seconds later she took her last breath. Now my sisters will tell you that the wind must have blown the door open, but I know that the Holy Spirit came to take my mother to heaven. I miss her very much, but I am joyous that she is with our Lord in heaven. Yes the Rosary is a very powerful prayer, and the promises that it holds true.

Thank you maryj for sharing your story. I am too sorry that your mom passed away; however, we are happy that they both now are closer to God. Indeed, when I received the email from my uncle that my grandmother passed away, I immediately thanked God and knew that it was all His plan - my mom going to Vietnam and being with my grandmother were a blessing. Her passport had been expired, but everything, including passport and plane ticket, was taken care within few days. My mother was with my grandmother for five days.
