Praying the rosary in public?

I have a .mp3 version of the Rosary on my cellphone that I listen to whenever I have enough time at the university and at the public transport.
I think that this way I get less distracted.

I pray the rosary mentally in public driving places and waiting places.
Not usually out loud.
Our Legion of Mary used to pray the rosary publicly
in front of Planned Parenthood. We took turns going
in pairs. But it actually became too dangerous so our
Bishop asked us to stop. This was back in the eighties.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it and I commend you for doing it in public.
If people laugh or ridicule you, remember what Christ said, “If they hate you, remember they hated me first” or something along that line? Correction?
I am currently in college and I have found myself having long breaks until my next classes. For this reason I have time to pray the rosary. I usually pray it while sitting at a bench. A lot of people pass by and thus they are able to see me praying the rosary.

I have prayed the rosary in public in other places as well, such as if I am waiting for someone who is in a store and taking long. I would sit outside the store and pray the rosary in a bench for example.

No one has said anything but a lot of people can obviously see what I am doing.

I was wondering if there is anything wrong with this? I am asking because I know Jesus did say that we should not let our prayers be seen and shown but do them in secret and such. At the same time I know people pray the rosary in public such as in front of abortion clinics for example and other pro-life events.

I asked a friend of mine who is a devout Catholic and he said that there is nothing wrong. As a matter of fact he said it is a good thing. He said that it is not bad as long as you do not do it for the mere sake of wanting to be seen. Every time I am about to pray the rosary in public I say a quick prayer asking God that I do not do this for the sake of being seen, but that God may be seen.

I think praying the rosary in public gives good witness. God knows what your intentions are in the secret ‘closet’ of your heart. I pray the rosary when I walk in the morning, one for each of my children and/or one for the most needed intention. I know that people can see what I am doing but that is incidental as I would pray weather I was being seen or not. Do not shy away from your prayer for fear of what others may think.👍

I’m very proud of you for praying the rosary in public and encourage you to continue. I take my rosary with me everywhere and the two times I have been with my sister when she’s had surgery I whipped that rosary out and got to business. Quite frankly, I hope others do see me praying because I, too, consider it as witnessing to the Catholic faith.
I like this. Witnessing to the Catholic faith.
Thanks!🙂

As long as you’re truly praying to be praying and not showing off, then there’s nothing wrong with it. In fact, the world desperately needs this witness. Saint Louis de Montfort commended a man who didn’t pray the rosary but wore it publicly as a good example- people were edified and encouraged to pray it when they saw this man.

I have prayed my rosary while taking walks and I know that people can see me, but I’m not praying it to show off. I just really need to pray.

If it bothers you, put the rosary in your pocket when praying. That way no one will know that you are praying.

I go to a public high school, and I pray the Rosary when I have time during the day. People can see me, and they do not say anything.

And i like this too and often we have lots more time to wear a rosary than to pray one. Besides if you wear it you will always be ready in an emergency!👍
