Not ever ever while driving. Prayer is not rote words that can be uttered with no deep involvement. I have too much respect for other road users and would never forgive myself if my distraction in prayer caused injury. I learned this several years ago driving in the early dark hours along a country road here in Ireland when there had been a discussion on this in a forum. Clear road then as from nowhere, a small child on the road, dragging a blanket. One seconds delay or distraction…parent raced out and grabbed child and I was left shaking.

I have used Laudate, a free app. It has a number of different options for the Rosary, and some for the Divine Mercy, either in Latin as well, led very nicely. One includes scripture before each Hail Mary.

I also use Rosary Player when I’m not able to use data; it has all 4 sets of mysteries, guided or unguided.
I think it’s more important and sincere if one prays from the heart, and not follow a tape, recording, software, or such. I know we all try to be accurate but that only counts if you have to do penance or do a vocal prayer with others. Although they serve a purpose, they’re not always sincere in that environment IMO.

If you’re concerned about the right mysteries and the like, you can always read them beforehand and apply the intentions then. Just a suggestion.
Please don’t judge why others might prefer a ‘led’ Rosary, even via podcast/radio. I am just as sincere as anyone else praying the Rosary with or without it being led. I’m not just ‘listening idly’. It doesn’t have to do with being accurate, either.

Even our penance Rosary doesn’t have to be perfect; our intent does.

I’ve prayed the rosary in my car before by putting a cd in and reciting along with it. I can’t hold onto the beads and drive at same time though. My diocese put out a cd with our bishop and others on it. I really like the scriptural ones but I don’t think Mother Mary worries if we do it with or without scripture verses intertwined.

The car is like my primary prayer place anymore. I pray a daily rosary, and I’d say that 90% of the time it’s in the car. I just use my fingers to count and don’t listen to anything while doing it.

As I’ve gotten older, and busier, I find I don’t have a lot of quite time for prayer. I pray while driving, getting dressed, showering and well, pretty much while doing just about anything that doesn’t involve conversing with another person.

You have a point. We need to be aware of our surroundings and pay attention when attention is needed. Still, even though the words may be rote and somewhat superficial, there is blessing in allowing Mary guide your thoughts.
