How do you meditate the mysteries? Do you read them from the Bible? Or Focus on what they are about?

At first, I started out using a little booklet---- Pray the Rosary. I’d look at the picture, and read a couple of sentences used as a prompt for you memory. For example: Joyful Mystery; The Announciation–picture of our Lady and Archangel Gabriel; prompt phrase- Think of:The humility of the Blessed Virgin when the angel Gabriel greeted her with these words: “Hail full of grace”. I soon memorized them. I recall the picture, a word from the prompt phrase–The Announciation/ Humility.

Lately I’ve been using Pray the Rosary With Scripture Readings. There’s a short version, and a long version. I like the long version—a short text before each Hail Mary, one sentence added at the end of “fruit of your womb, Jesus.” For example: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed are thee among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, Who chose you as His Immaculate Mother from all eternity. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen This method keeps me focused, since I’m easily distracted. 😦

Sometimes I focus on the mysteries. Often in our family each decad we call out prayer intentions, and focus on those as well as the mysteries. I think the important thing is that you pray!😉

After the Glory to the Father prayer and the oh my Jesus prayer, I read a passage from the Bible that corresponds to that specific mystery, then say the Lord’s prayer.

Sometimes I pray the Mysteries from scripture, but lately, in order to focus better, I’ve taken to going on youtube and there’s a really good upload on there (I just did a search for rosary) and it’s by catholicdevotions (I think that’s the name of the uploader). It’s the rosary being said with a male voice, not an entire congregation, just his voice with responses open for us to recite. While he’s reciting it, there are paintings by the masters that all go hand in hand with the current Mystery being said. I found the main downloads under marions.net. They also have them all subtitled if you wish, in case you don’t know the responses by heart. It’s wonderful, especially if you are more able to focus in a visual setting.

Sometimes I’ll use St. Louis De Montfort’s shorter method (a clause after Jesus in the Hail Mary). Other times I’ll combine that with a reading from the Bible. And then other times, look at an icon in a Rosary book I have. Whichever way(s), I try to keep it simple and see the love and mercy of God in each mystery. It’s a prayer from the heart. How each one pertains to my life will just come, thanks to Jesus and Mary. I’m not saying to just kick back and let them do it all, but in the end, it’s best not to try too hard. Silence of the mind during the Rosary can really open one up to what God wants to say.

I just imagine the scene in my mind and think about how it show’s God love for us.

Example: The Visitation

I imagine how amazing it was for Elizabeth and the unborn John to be in the presence of the Mother of God and Our Lord, and how fitting it is to praise God like Elizabeth did (and contributed to the Ave in the process).

It’s easy with practice, but if something else works for you, do that.

When I say the Mysteries of the Rosary, I say the Mysteries first, than I medatied when I say my Hail Mary,s.

I like to meditate on the sorrowful mysteries and what helps me do that is once in a while I will watch on Youtube the movie Mel Gibson put out, “The Passion of Christ”. So now as I meditate on those mysteries, I can recall events that happened in the movie. It makes it easier for me. And it may help you as well. 🙂

I do like mediating on the sorrowful for its the time Jesus was suffering. I to have the Movie Passion of Christ, When I first saw it at the Moves, it made me very Inmotionable, espical when they were socuging Jesus at the piller, and when Jesus was nail to the Cross, that I brought one for me on DVD,for it makes me cry.

I have found it helpful to do a bilingual prayer: Most prayers in English, but the Hail Marys in Latin.

I usually find that praying “Hail Mary …” in English distracts me from meditating on the mystery. (Occasionally praying in Latin lets my mind wander and so I revert to English.)

Also, for each mystery (especially the sorrowful mysteries) I concentrate on how Love Itself became man and suffered for us. Concentrating on the Love of God helps me focus.

Finally, I ask Saint Joseph and Saint André of Montreal to intercede for me that I may truly concentrate and commune with our God.
