So I want to pray the Rosary sometimes, but I’m not sure how, is there a website thats really easy to understand? Do we really have to pray all of that? or just the 5 decades? Can someone explain the mysteries? because they seem complicated.

Hi there!

You can find pretty much everything about the rosary here

Hope this helped!!

Do I have to say the preparation and concluding prayers, or just the 5 decades? How do I meditate on the mysteries? like if its a Monday, do I think about the joyful mysteries and meditate on one of the 5 events listed, 1 for each of the 5 decades in order?

👍 Good for you ! There is ! www.rosaryarmy.com . You can even download two different versions - one simpler, one a little longer… more scripture verses inserted between the Hail Mary’s… onto your computer and Ipod if you use one, and listen listen listen until you have the words down. Also, there are other prayers included, the standard ones that get included with the rosary, I think, such as the Hail Holy Queen. You would get the wording down on them, too, as you listen over and over. Then you (and i) get to wean ourselves off and begin to prayer on our own, already familiar with the mysteries, at least in the form of the verses chosen for this recording. ALSO~ check out www.ewtn.com and be sure to listen to Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s high devotional prayer of the rosary ! There are two cd’s which I don’t want to spend the money on just yet. He also wrote a book, The Rosary, CHain of Hope. But you **have **to listen to him…the recording that station plays regularly, daily, I think. His is in a class by itself although rosaryarmy is highly useful too.

Also you can find Latin versions of nearly all the prayers which for me is nice to play in the background on the computer !

And while we are working with this more complicated prayer, there is always the Divine Mercy Chaplet. When I read a few minutes ago about the beheading of the 7 Christians in Somolia today, I thought about praying for all the people around the world who are heavily suffering, in danger, and Christian. … GOOD GRIEF.

That site says to pray the Our Father before every decade, even the first, I thought you only prayed it on the big beads, and I thought you prayed the Glory Be before the Our Father, and it has the Fatima prayer, I know what Fatima says, but do you have to pray it? If you don’t do you substitute another prayer? And it says you have to announce the mysteries, is it possible to pray the Rosary silently?

You can do it whichever way that you like…it is best to pray the preparation and concluding prayers, because they will help do exactly what they mean; prepare for the rosary and conclude it. You can always simply pray the Apostles Creed, Our Father, three Hail Mary’s and a Glory Be to start…then proceed with the five decades. The other prays are extra but are part of it in most cases.

Yes, meditate on each of the decades. For example, if the mystery is “The Annunciation”, as you pray the ten Hail Mary’s, think about what happened during the Annunciation…The angel Gabriel coming to Mary and telling her she will have a son, the King of the World. Think of how this mystery can be applied in your life. Maybe Jesus is telling you something. These are ways in which you can really meditate on what you are praying.

I am a great and probably permanent fan of praying the rosary silently but that could change ! … in fact I use the Hail Mary as a silent prayer. If you type in How to say the Rosary on www.catholic.com or on www.ewtn.com, or google it, you will find a diagram pointing to various beads. The order seems to vary. There are places where you hold onto the string, or chain, and recite certain things. On the diagram I have, I see the Oh My Jesus combined with the Glory Be to the Father…both to be said with arrow seeming to be pointing to the string before the first Our Father bead that comes AFTER the initial 10 Hail Mary’s.

Also maybe this is a kind of announcing but I think of a phrase when praying the Franciscan Crown, which is another form of the rosary that doesn’t, I have read in some sources, require meditation. It concerns Joys of Mary, 7 of them, and there are two more decades on the rosary. I think Fr. Groeschel’s elucidation (pardon the word) of the rosary will be very useful, The Rosary: Chain of Hope. He describes the prayers as a kind of mantra but is careful to explain that isn’t like a yoga type mantra. You are not trying to lose your mind, tame it, or eliminate it. He means that you repeat the prayers and visualize or tune in on the mysteries while doing so.

Those sites are great, and I’m starting to understand, but when announcing the mysteries, if the mystery is say, The Annunciation, do you just say, (or think if praying silently) “The Annunciation” or do you say more?

You can silently say “The Annunciation”, and then think of Mary saying “yes” to the angel. She agreed right away to do the will of God. You can meditate on that and make the decision to also always do the will of God, trusting in Him in all things.

If you are meditating on the Sorrowful Mysteries, the first of which is “The Agony in the Garden” you can think of our Lord accepting the Will of the Father to go through with His suffering all for the love of you.

The Holy Spirit will guide you to use your imagination to get the most out of meditating on the mysteries. The more you pray the Rosary the better you will get at it.

Peace,

Dorothy

Thanks, 1 more question, is there something I can print out with all the mysteries on them on 1 page?

I am treading on without being any kind of expert except in one thing… I have had a lot of experience in repeating words ! … and now in reading Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross (the commentary on the poem by the same name) i recognize what has happened to me in the last few years… among other things, all the “pleasure” I thought I was having from repeating stuff and doing various “spiritual” rituals associated with where I was focusing, disappeared quite a while back. The less involved the better. If we just say or think The Annunciation then maybe just let oneself BE and see what happens keeping in mind what it is we have just announced we are focusing upon. Fr. Groschel’s book has pictures and I plan to order it but am aware of what has happened before, having had books with pictures of the mysteries in the past (pamphlets of various kinds) and not availing myself enough of them because I close my eyes when praying the rosary. Also we could use scripture verses to give ourself a mental picture.

Check out this site:
medjugorje.org/rosary.htm

You can print out all the Mysteries.

It is good to remember that the days suggested for praying certain mysteries is not set in stone. You can pray other mysteries than those designated. There is no need to be scrupulous about what mysteries are to be used on what day. Those are suggestions in order to vary and use all of them.
