Praying The Rosary

OK, so I’ve been praying the rosary everyday for about a week now. This evening, I decided it’d be more proper for me to pray on my knees. And I somehow forgot that floors are hard and not like knee benches. 😛

Is it necessary to pray all prayers on our knees? The whole process distracts me from the prayers I’m praying.

No, not at all, one can pray sitting or standing or kneeling or in any other position.

I wanted to pray the rosary but didn’t actually have a rosary and I was losing count on my fingers (I’d be overcome with thought and emotion and lose it). I ended up downloading a pray-the-rosary app on my smart phone. It is wonderful. I highly recommend it.

The Holy Rosary is a marvelous prayer that is transformative. I have been praying it for many years and know that the devotion changes people. When we are new to it, we worry too much about the prayers, the beads, the distractions. As we grow through it, out hearts are lifted up in love more consistently than when we first pray it.

Contemplative prayer is a gift and may take many years of meditation to experience, if it is God’s will. Many devotees of the Rosary achieve a level of contemplative prayer. When the prayers become automatic, our minds are surrounded by the “rosary” of prayers allowing us to experience the mysteries more intimately.

I now pray the Rosary in Latin–a wonderful way to put the powerful prayers of the devotion between me and distracting thoughts while I experience the mysteries. If one prays the Rosary in the presence of the Eucharist–in a quiet chapel or church–the experience is indescribable. Praying it as a group is unitive. It is truly a gift from Heaven.

To be sure, it can become drudgery, and I can recall long periods when I dreaded the regular time for my Rosary. If those occur, I strongly recommend the beautiful Divine Mercy Chaplet. I recommend that some form of the beads be on one’s person always–I especially treasure those Rosaries with a center made of the Miraculous Medal.

Anyone else get a high after praying the Rosary? I was exhausted around 8pm, pushed myself to pray it, and about 4 hours later now and I could stay up a few more hours.

Going to force myself to get to bed though. Have church in the morning. 😃

Just filled out the enrollment form for the Confraternity, btw.

It’s what keeps me going. Congrats and welcome to the Confraternity. 🙂

I think this is pretty common among rosarians, actually. 🙂

But just for the record, there will be times when you may be too exhausted to complete the Rosary. Please do not feel guilty or nervous about that. You are going above and beyond what is required of a Catholic Christian just by praying a daily Rosary. Make up the missed decades the next day and keep on rolling.

I am glad you found out about the Confraternity right away! I enrolled with the Western Dominicans last month… after having been praying the Rosary nightly for a year+ (as I have a brown scapular among others).

I agree Cat, I Pray the Rosary often in the morning to begin since I’m most awake and clear minded. Yet, many times I have fallen asleep at night praying the Rosary. Should I fall asleep I often awake knowing just about where I left off.

But there is a Spiritual elevation which I agree can be described as a High.

Anyway, what I believe in essense happens through recititation is the Blessed Mother brings you to Her Son in many different ways and many unexplainable. Yet it happens and as you become closer to Christ and the Holy Family hopefully you reduce your sin to zero. That reality is hand and hand with constant prayer. Good and evil can’t occupy the same space, its impossible. The Prays invokes God thus Good.

As you reduce you sin your Grace increase’s. As your Grace increase’s Christ in your Heart becomes more prevelant. I’m convinced 100% of this.

For me making a commitment to recitation of the Rosary daily has bought me greater understanding of the Church/Christ, and to a greater responsibility to my Faith through weekly Mass/Communion/Confession and greater Prayer than what I initially started. As a matter of fact the Rosary has opened my mind to Christ in my life at all moments throughout the day. Today my inner mind constantly refects back to Christ/Cross, Church, Bible, Blessed Mother, Pope, Elect, This Forum, etc etc. And the escalation started with a commitment to recite the Rosary Daily. Often I multi-task with Chist being a part of that. But I do believe He is always there now. As He is with all the Fathfull. How much and to what degree depends on “your” how much and to what degree.

The only other individual that could possibly be as hard-headed as I was about the Recitation of the Rosary? Well, that would be the one who never accepts this Blessing. I never would disrespect the Blessed Mother, I grew up Catholic and knew better at that point. While my Grandmother and Mother devoted there entire life to Daily Recitation of the Rosary church etc. I didn’t accept this for decades and lived a life similiar to other denominations. What constantly came back to haunt me was the simple fact that I knew no other two individuals as devoted to Christ and the Catholic Faith as my Mother/Grandmother and they obvious role-models. My grandmother may well be a Saint. She had a chapel in here home, attended church Daily, recited the Rosary constantly throughout the day. Lived directly in back of my Parish and spent her free time with the Sisters.

I’m convinced when redemption through Prayer is spoken on? My mothers Prayer intercession saved my Soul. Today I’m convinced of that. Yes those I mentioned had a bearing as did my Catholic up-bringing. Yet I do believe its a bit deeper than that. The Christian happiness thats witnessed through the fathers/sisters of this faith? I couldn’t find that living a materialistic life in sin. An indepth study of Self began which I already had a Psychology degree so in effect what I did to help others I did to help myself.

And here’s another mind blowing aspect. As I worked with other behavior issues, with the more difficult I constantly found myself referring to Bible and Faith. And I myself was using the very method which I didn’t practice in my own life. It was a “Do as say, not as I do senerio”. There came a point of understanding myself where I realized the need to not only to conquer self, but to do so through Faith would iun effect be the Truth of human existance. And not just for me for all. Thsi conflict we struggle with dates back to Adam and Eve and Original Sin. We as the Human Race have forgotten our own History thus Truth. The Rosary will quickly bring you back to this fact.

But anyway the Rosary is a Blessing which I found many don’t receive simply because they won’t make the effort or believe for whatever reason. None of which detracts from the reality of the Rosary.

And I don’t say what I say to be an advocate for the Rosary, but for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. You may find Faith in the Devine Chaplet, or Chaplet of St Michael. Another senerio of Prayers which promise Devine Intervention “if” you follow the path through life. Is it true and will God keep his promise? Of course Christ will keep his promise, not a single doubt in my mind.

God Bless, GT

Thanks. 😃 The Confraternity should help me stay disciplined in the practice. Yes, I know it’s ok if I’m too tired one day but I know how easy it is for me to slack off on anything and everything. 😛

There’s actually a nice book I’ve been reading sparingly, that mentioned the Confraternity but I never thought to look for it online. The book is called “The Secret of the Rosary,” by St. Louis Mary Grignion De Montfort. It’s a good book about the history of the rosary. 🙂
