I’m not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but I’m gonna give it a shot anyways haha.

I recently decided to start praying the rosary on a more consistent basis. I’m twenty years old, and have prayed the rosary maybe twice in my life (I know, I don’t feel like a very good Catholic right now). My goal right now is to pray the rosary at least once a week. I’m slowly getting the hang of how to do this, but am still having to look at a guide sheet as I do it. The part I feel like I’m going to have the hardest time getting is when I read the joyful mysteries for different days of the week. How long did it take all of you to memorize the different mysteries for each different weekday? I’ve been praying the rosary for about three weeks now, and am just trying to get an idea of how much longer I’ll have to do it before I memorize it all. Or is this something that most people don’t memorize? Will I have to use my guide sheet forever? Haha. Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated!

First of all, don’t worry about memorizing. If you recite the Rosary often enough you will automatically memorize the mysteries.

The Rosary is a private devotion, so you can’t do it wrong when praying it on your own. Only in a public setting should it be recited consistently to lessen confusion. So, don’t obsess over saying it “just right.” It’s meant to be an aid to your faith not a burden to bear. 🙂

Also, if you wish to pray the Church’s public prayer (liturgical prayer), you might consider praying the Daily Offices of Morning and Evening Prayer. It only takes about 10 to 15 minutes to recite each office and doing so keeps you on track with the Church’s seasons, feasts, holy days of obligation, etc.

When praying the Rosary in private you can pray as you desire, the specific Mystery is not mandatory for any given day.

Mean Girls. The movie Mean Girls is how I remember the Glorious Mysteries are on Wednesday. Some friends of mine made a video once, where one scene had one of them picking a Rosary to match the mysteries. Wednesday → Glorious → Assumption → Blue for Mary. Eventually, that logic mutated in my head into a Mean Girls reference. “On Wednesdays, we wear -]pink/-] blue.”

As others have said, don’t lose sleep about which mystery to pray when.
But it might be helpful to at some point look at the mysteries all in a row:
In other words…they are a timeline of the life of Jesus with 2 specifically Marian mysteries at the conclusion.
For Ex:
The Joyful mysteries are all about the Incarnation and Jesus young life
The Luminous are all about Jesus’ public ministry
Next come the Sorrowful: all about the events of the Passion
Finally, the Glorious, which refer the Resurrection & beyond.

When you realize that everything is in chronological order, it will fall into place.
God bless you! This is the way I’ve always taught them to my students and they pick it up in a flash.

I pray the rosary everyday usually, but not always, in the evening. I love it and look forward to it. Sometimes as I pray my mind free associates, and I feel as if I am not only adoring but conversing with my own mother. If I am worried and upset when I begin praying, I am comforted by the time I finish praying. The rosary that I use was given to me by my first grade teacher, Sr Bernard, on the occasion of my first communion. Sr Bernard taught us to read and to pray the rosary - 60 years ago.

Hi, I started praying the Rosary LATE IN LIFE,
but this old mind of mine still works, I got the
Mysteries of the Rosaries down in my first Month!
Praise the Lord!

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you,
blessed are you among women,
blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen!

I pray the rosary every day but at different times for the decades – I pray the first two decades with my first cup of coffee – the 3rd and 4th at various times of the day – when I walk to public transportation – when I walk to the bus – when I walk to Church – and the last decade I say before I turn out the light at night. Each decade I pray for a different person or persons-- I “pray” for my children, my grandchildren, a special class at our local Catholic grammar school. I couldn’t get through the day without praying the rosary.

That has helped me a lot, knowing that it’s the ‘order’ of His Life. But I’m still learning!

God bless you for your devotion to the Rosary, to God, and to Mary! 🙂 One way that helps me is using the Laudate app for iPhone and Android. It has TONS of other uses as well. 🙂

Congratulations on learning the Rosary. I myself have done it regularly, and daily for some years, and this is what has come true to me. 1. your goal is 1 rosary per week. Ans. It took me about 2 years doing it DAILY for me to do it on my own and without the cheat sheet.
Resp. Take your time. Be patient in doing them. Recite them slow. Meditating on them may be difficult since your also reciting them verbally I found. Instead I just sit and enjoy the quiet and focus on removing Distracters that in the beginning will bombard ones peace. The key is to gently refocus on the rosary. It’s repetitive and can be exhaustive but well worth it. This control eventually of the distracters will eventually help in other prayer styles like sitting before the Blessed Sacrament. Hope this helps! And hang in there. Your reward be in having a peaceful Soul which the Lord will make use of.:tiphat::tiphat:

When you eay the Rosary daily like our Lady ask, your Mystiers remain in your head. Plus Our lady ask for us to say the Rosary daily, not once a week, for the more you say it ,the more Our Lady will help you,and take your prays to her son Jesus. I pray you will go back to saying the Rosary Daily. :gopray2:

God Bless you for committing to praying the Rosary. As with most prayers, the words are easier to memorize with repetition but that’s not the point. I would suggest you focus on the Mysteries and on the individual prayers involved (i.e. Our Fathers, Hail Marys, etc). Forget memorizing them; that will come in time. Sort of like memorizing the Bible. I’m sure it can be done but I believe it more important we focus on the Word and not the words if you understand my meaning. Have a Blessed Day.

You’ll get there with repetition. I still have to look at my guide as well, but I’ve found recorded rosary recitations I can pray along with have helped a lot in building my memory.

I like to have a written description of the mysteries to read before I start each decade. It helps my meditation a lot. If you search around the internet, you can find beautiful descriptions of the mysteries, or you could even write them yourself.
