Why do catholic’s pray the Rosary? I am catholic and know how to pray the Rosary, and don’t know how to explain it to non catholic’s.

its a structured form of meditative prayer. One prays the Our Fathers and Hail Mary’s while contemplating the life of Christ and the few Mysteries around the Blessed Mother.

I’m sure said non-Catholics would comment in awe at the wonder of chants of monks of other religions or extol the merits of meditation with scented candles or comment how holy the old guy with Hindu prayer beads is. So for Catholics its a old form of meditative prayer to bring one closer to Christ.

and to add - it’s one form of structured prayer to supplement ones prayer life. Sometime free form prayer is merited when one has a particular ‘discussion’ or petition to bring to God. But, human concentration can be weak and as one extends an on-the-fly prayer session, one begins to ramble and lose focus. Kinda like sitting at a Thanksgiving dinner table waiting for a Southern Baptist to finish grace - it can get kind of rambling and convoluted.

We meditate on the life of our Lord Jesus Christ while holding the hand of the woman who said in the Sacred Scripture "…all generations shall call me blessed…

I like this simple explanation. Clicking on the highlighted words takes you to each mystery.

The Rosary teaches you the life of Jesus.
It takes you on a journey through the joys, teachings, sorrows, and glories of Jesus and His Mother Mary. *

It’s a way of venerating the Virgin Mary while still being able to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ.

To meditate on the life of her beloved Son.
Mary, in all her actions and words, point us to her Son.
That’s what they question, and that’s what they need to know.
It’s his life in chronological order.
If you had a folder of the Mysteries, you could show them that.

Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray the holy rosary every day and told Sr. Lucia that it would have more efficacy in these later days. Popes have taught about its power and have recommended it. Traditionally, we meditate on 15 mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mary while praying vocal prayers. The 150 Hail Mary’s in the holy rosary correspond to the 150 Psalms in the Bible. The Rosary was given by the Blessed Virgin Mary to man and is called the Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Rosary begins and ends with some introductory and closing prayers and includes the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be prayers in its body. No prayer can not be answered by the holy rosary so long as it is not contrary to God’s Will. God bless you.
