Is it okay if I sit on my bed while praying the rosary? Or should I only pray the rosary while kneeling? Thanks!

I’m sure Our Lady is always delighted when one of her children says the Rosary, regardless of posture. 🙂

Otherwise, I’m wasting my time-- I say the Rosary walking, driving, bouncing an infant in my lap, etc…

I don’t see why not. I usually sit in my easy chair, with the Rosary in one hand, and the other hand petting Fluffy, who likes to to be my lap cat.

I pace myself with the MARY FOUNDATION CD of the rosary.

And, yes, sometimes I get distracted, either by Fluffy’s intense purring or other outside influences, but I just gently bring my mind back, without blame or shame.

I tend to operate on the assumptions that Mother Mary is level-headed and reasonable, does understand, and even has a sense of humor. And there is that legend that she put the “M” on the foreheads of tabby cats

Many people (yours truly included) have been known to pray while lying in bed - and in fact sometimes asleep while so doing!

There’s a lovely saying that if we fall asleep while praying our Guardian Angel finishes the prayer for us 🙂

Since bed is an important part of the sacrament of marriage, ’ sancifying ’ it by The Rosary, has to be more than o. k 🙂

And in the makebelieve world of children , where the parent’s bed often take on the life of a boat /ship ( reminiscent of The Ark ) , the occasional , if not regular habit of family prayer time on the bed also probably has its own sweetness …

( sometimes ponder if Noah’s ? poor wife was a woman of prayer …or somehow did she resent her husband …and sowed the seeds of rebellion /contempt …How blessed we are , after all those painful episodes, to be able to behold the magnificent Mother The Lord has given us !)

In those mornings, after having overcome the temptation to stay in bed a little longer, and having brought the body too to a better prayer mode, by being prostrate on the floor , I find that - the prayer /focus becomes surprisngly better ! 🙂

At work, we could also take a little advantage while walking down to the hallway and say a Hail Mary prayer.

I also pray the rosary in bed. And sadly, sometmes I do get very distracted. I try my best- but lately I have s many thoughts running through my mind…I am hoping she doesn’t mind, that at least I’m praying…not perfectly, but faithfully.

Is it acceptable for a non Catholic to pray the rosary?

Does it matter if you’re male or female?

It is absolutely fine for non-Catholics. One (or possibly both) of the Wesley brothers (founders of Methodism) used to pray it regularly, as do plenty of Anglicans.

And it absolutely doesn’t matter if you’re male or female. The Rosary in the form we have it today is pretty much the work of a male saint (St Dominic) and has been promoted by numerous Popes. Additionally it has been championed by numerous female saints and holy women such as St Bernadette of Lourdes and Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta - including, if accounts are to be believed, Our Lady herself 👍

It truly is for everybody :yup:

We not only accept that, whether you are male or female, we ENCOURAGE it!👍 (I’m a 62 year old male RCIA Candidate)

The FOCUS of the rosary is on Jesus Christ, when we meditate on the 20 mysteries.

I always fall asleep as I say the rosary - my Angel has to finish one every night for me, I think!🙂

I pray the Rosary either sitting up on the bed, or reclining on the mattress, on my elbow. I frequently make use of a “scriptural rosary” book.

I used to pray the rosary lying on my back, but realized that I cannot focus on the mysteries in that position and am liable to fall asleep even if I’m not particularly tired.

By the way, ever since I began praying the Divine Mercy chaplet every day, my devotion to the Rosary has INCREASED 100%.

Tonight I prayed the Rosary sitting in the tub.

Last Christmas, I think my Christmas gift from Our Lady was an inaudible suggestion that I could pray the Rosary in the shower.

“You’ll come out cleaner than when you went in.”

I think Our Lady can also have a good sense of humor. And I think she loves to help us to find easy ways to be better.

In the tub? Wow. That’s a new one! 🙂

I couldn’t do that, personally.
For me, the idea of me being in the presence of
God and Our Lady while butt-naked just doesn’t seem,
well, proper, I guess.

Then again, Our Lady is glorified and can see right through our clothing if she wanted to, but I like to believe she would avert her eyes (especially from a hairy fatso like me!!!).

God bless,

I pray in the shower all of the time. In fact, I pray just about everywhere I go, doing about anything! I figure if God created me, held me in the palm of His hand, knit me in my mother’s womb, and all of that, I don’t think he’ll be too offended with this middle-aged mother of four’s body. (Everyone else may be, though!😃 ) Mary? She’s a woman. I don’t feel too embarrassed around her. I’m sure she’s seen and heard it all by now.🙂 I’m sure my guradian angel knows what I look like, too

She’s a mother for heaven’s sake. She bathed our Lord and Saviour - you can bet he wasn’t fully clothed while so doing. I don’t think she’d be worried at all.

I have to bring up yet again the wonderful and highly relevant story of St Teresa of Avila praying while on the john (don’t know whether it was to Our Lady or not).

Apparently a devil appeared to her to taunt her for doing so. She said ‘God receives what ascends, what descends is for you, devil!’ 😉
