A friend of mine, who is Protestant, shared that he is depressed that he did not get a miracle that he prayed to Jesus for. He did not share the specifics. So I shared my own experience. Years ago, someone close to me had an accident and suffered a serious injury. The specifics are not important, but the circumstances called for a miracle. I prayed to Jesus with all my heart. Time passed and no improvement on the patient. Then I prayed more, but this time, through the intercession of a specific saint. The improvement came swiftly. At first, I did not understand this, but then I did some research, and realized, that in the history of Christianity, more miracles have been granted through saints (especially Mary) than directly from our Lord.
I stopped asking why. Who can know the mind of God? it is not my place to question God but to humbly accept that it pleases him to grant graces and gifts through the intercession of his saints, who reign with him in his glory. My Protestant friend did not appreciate my testimonial, in fact he was offended by it. So to me, Luther did a great disservice by taking away Mary and the saints from people.
Lord, you who are perfectly faithful and true, send us the Holy Spirit, to guide us in working out our salvation so that we can join the saints in your glory!
