Any prayer offered, whether we are asking the intercession of the Blessed Mother or St. Joseph or any of the Saints, ultimately (in the sense of cause, not temporality) is offered through the One Mediator, Christ. They, by His grace infused by the power of the Holy Spirit which transforms them (and us) into images of Christ, participate in His One Mediatorship.

Yes; even though we have asked her intercession, her intercession flows from and through Christ.

All the baptized have been transformed by Sanctifying Grace from servants to children of God; we have been adopted as true sons of the Father in the One Son and are thus to image Him in our words, actions, in the reality of who we are - and this isn’t just an appearance, but a true transformation in Christ. A book you would find helpful in better understanding this is Dietrich Von Hildebrand’s Transformation In Christ; also see The Spiritual Canticle, by St. John of the Cross.

The praying to Mary and the Saints in Heaven stems from the doctrine of the Communion of Saints. The ability for the Saints in Heaven to intercede for us is only in Christ and through Christ. It is no different than if we ask another physically living Christian to pray for us - they are interceding on our behalf - Mary and the Saints do likewise - only perfectly so.

Some have claimed that Catholics pray to the dead, but is that correct? No. Those who have gone before us to Heaven are fully united with Christ and are therefore more alive than we are - they are experiencing the fullness of God’s Glory.

Because Mary and the Saints are in perfect communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, wouldn’t they know best how to intercede on our behalf?

The problem is that protestants don’t understand the meaning of the words. They equate prayer with worship. I truth, the English word pray simply means to ask. We ask Mary to pray for us to Jesus.
