So i realized that i don’t know the answer to this: when i pray, should i pray to each person of the Trinity individually, or at the same time? Or when i pray to Jesus, am i automatically praying to the Father and Holy Spirit at the same time, since they are all one?

I have been meaning to post the same question!

This may not be the right answer, but here’s what I do: I start my “free-form” prayers “Lord, …”. My logic, which certainly may be flawed, is that this covers both the Father and the Son. And I’m often asking for the Lord to send me the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So, I figure I’m covered.

Hopefully, others will have a better answer than this.🙂

As there is only ONE God, what do you think the answer is?

Catholics usually begin and end each prayer with the sign of the Cross, so every pray is to, with and in the Trinity. Do you really think praying to Jesus slights or insults the Father and the Spirit? If you do, what do you do about praying to Mary and the saints?

I believe all three are the same.

My belief:
  1. The Father is God in Heaven.
  2. The Holy Spirit is the voice of God. This is the Label we give to the method that Humans communicate with God.
  3. Jesus is the human aspect of God. Though there are times that Jesus is Man (ie: crucifixion, childhood), he is more importantly God (resurrection).
So whether you say Jesus, Holy Spirit, or Father to begin a prayer, you are referring to the same God. Hopefully clarification to thistle’s question, “As there is only ONE God, what do you think the answer is?”

About praying to Mary and the saints:
This is my understanding…
The belief is that Mary and the Saints are “looking” over us. AND Just as people can pray for others (ie. “Lord, please take care of my children”), Mary and the Saints can do the same. The extension to this is if more people/saints pray for the same thing, God may listen and provide assistance.

If either of those are not very clear, I apologize. Please ask for clarification and I will try harder to explain.

Ah thanks so much guys. All the answers have helped. And it’s not that i didnt want to offend the Father when praying to Jesus or anything, its just that i wasn’t sure who i was talking to sometimes. But i got it now thanks

We are made in the image of God, i.e. body, soul and spirit.

So the Trinity is;

The soul = the Father
The Body = the Son
The spirit = the Holy Spirit.

Just as all three parts of yourself are one, so is the Holy Trinity, one God.
