How do you and your spouse pray together?

We are looking for a method that will suit us well and I would be interested in hearing what you guys do…
 
Before we had children we prayed the rosary together, just the two of us, each night before we went to sleep (at least on the nights when he was home since he worked at a group home back then and was on for 48 and 72 hour shifts). We continued the tradition once the babies started coming along and try to pray a family rosary between dinner time and bedtime every day.
 
Every single day, since we returned from a trip to Medjugorje in 2005, we share the Holy Rosary together. Every day.
There may be times when we pray it in the evening, or sometimes when we go to bed. Occasionally we might doze off before we finish the last mystery, and on those we trust our guardian angels will finish for us ! 🙂
Before that trip, we had NEVER said a Rosary together, in 35 years of marriage…
Heck, before going to Medjugorje, i didn’t even know HOW to say a complete Rosary ! 🙂 (I grew up Protestant).

In my experience, and it seems like it might be rather common, is that praying together works best with a more formal prayer, eg goes to mass, stayin ing the rosary, the angelus, etc. The more " conversation with God" type praying, is best done alone.

I pray The Holy Rosary wherever I may be; the Dental surgery waiting for my daughter today for instance, in the vehicle picturing Jesus and His Stations of His Cross while driving, in between work tasks, hanging out the washing, cleaning, shopping, (I now do not care if people look at me thinking I am talking to myself), whatever tasks I am doing offering them up to Jesus and Mother Mary before I pray The Holy Rosaries.

My grown up Children listen and now say prayers for world issues and themselves (at first they asked me to keep it down; I now pray more quietly since Mother Mary’s advice during The Holy Rosary was not to shout or raise voices. I then imagined Jesus and Our Lady Mary listening to Christian opera music up in Heaven, while Jesus is performing His Holy tasks and at the same time listening to every person down here on Earth praying to Him and all of His Apostles and Holy Helpers.

Everything clicked into place! The noise omissions coming from Earth so Loud that it would be Joyous moments for Jesus to hear our prayers quietly and peacefully prayed!

Just a little revelation I experienced for myself and others who may be interested.

However, given every person’s relationship with Our Heavenly Father is unique and different; Jesus and Mother Mary would want some people who are naturally quiet to probably speak up while praying! Similarly Jesus and Mother Mary communicate differently with each and every one of us being His Children equally Loved yet different communications!

I am waiting for the day when someone walks along the street and asks: may I join in praying the Holy Rosary with you? I will keep doing this until someone does approach me at a shopping centre or on the Streets! I have almost reached this point in my relationship with Jesus and Our Lady Mary Mother of Jesus.

We pray the Rosary together as a family most nights. On nights when I work or if we have other issues come up, then we may miss doing it as a family. On those nights, either I say it myself or I say it with my wife. We also pray together at meals.

We read a short section of the Bible (longer ones sometimes) and say general prayers (from the heart, not memorized) afterwords. My husband is protestant so this is about all we can do together prayerwise. 😉

I agree - what a wonderful blessing! My husband is faithful to attend mass, but has never been interested in daily prayer together.
 
I was given a devotional book when I was confirmed. It is a “Minute with the Popes” and starts off with a Scripture verse, then a reflection by a former Pope and finally a prayer. I read that and then lead an Our Father and a Hail Mary every night before bed and end it by kissing her ring finger as a sign of my continued devotion to our marriage.
 
My wife and myself pray together every morning, most evenings, and the Rosary when we can. Praying together has greatly enhanced our lives.

My fiance and I used to read a book called “My Daily Bread” by Fr. Anthony Paone before bedtime. I highly recommend it, it would be a great way to start a tradition of daily prayer. How do you guys pray the rosary together? Do you kneel? Do you take turns reciting? I’ve only ever done it by myself.😊

My wife and myself pray the rosary together by my leading the prayers and her reciting the second part. The setting varies, sometimes it is in Church, sometimes while walking around the neighborhood, sometimes while in the car, sometimes while sitting around the dining room table, etc.

Interestingly, last year our six year old grandson told us while visiting that he wanted to pray the rosary with us, and he wanted to do it the same way with us taking turns with each prayer. We did not know that he had noticed, and we are quite pleased with him taking such a strong interest in praying the rosary.
