It has always been traditional in Christianity to pray facing east and to have churches facing east. This isn’t because of the location of any city (Christians all over the world would still face east) but because East has always been seen as ‘good’ as opposed to west which is the direction of ‘evil’.Yeah, what are you talking about?
I have heard about Muslims facing the Holy City, but Catholics facing the East? Never heard of it. Do explain.
This is why, I believe, many churches which weren’t able to be built directly east always have/had an oddly placed door either to the side or off from an angle of the church as this will be the east/west direction as it was traditional to enter through a certain side and leave through a back entrance (to avoid leaving from the west)
