Hello, I recently noticed how a lot of secular love songs pose an interesting dilemma: their intent is that the song refers to another person and includes language that is reserved only for God (ex: things like “I worship you all day”) or other phrases that isn’t quite proper to orient towards others no matter how much we love them.
However, if you only change the intent of the recipient of the lyrics, a lot of songs (not all, mind you, but a surprisingly good portion) could be absolutely beautiful ways to praise God with some very moving music (and of course some genres of music lend themselves better to that then others, again, generalities here).
So, in short, what are your thoughts on “Christianizing” a song written with a very secular intent, and using them to praise God (with God as their subject instead of the original intent)?
Very interested to hear your perspective and opinion. Have a blessed day!
