Pre-Cana Question

I was wondering if it is possible for a Maronite Priest to perform the marriage preparation for a Roman Catholic Wedding. My fiancee is Roman Catholic and I am currently non-denominational.

We were looking for a nearby RC church, but most are quite far away. We did find a Maronite church that is really close.

I understand that the Maronite church is in full communion with Rome, but that there are still some differences in Canon Law. Are the differences significant enough that we should make the distance for the RC church?

It’s possible to do marriage prep in a different parish than the one your fiancee is attending. Is he currently attending the Maronite parish or driving to the Latin parish? Latin rite Catholics can belong to a parish of a different rite. If he is attending the Latin rite parish, but wanting to do pre-cana at the Maronite, he would need the permission of both pastors.

You have to ask the permission of the priest that will be celebrating the Mass it that would be alright. Keep in mind that pre-cana doesn’t require a whole lot of trips to the priest and if it’s a terrible distance, the priest might be willing to skype of do some of the prep on the phone.

She lives in Guatemala, and I have just recently moved to Ohio from Georgia.
She will be visiting in November, and we are planning to hopefully work through the process while she is here.

After looking through some information It may be easier overall for me to look for an RC church. Because we had begun making arrangements to have the wedding in Atlanta (it being the easiest place for all guests and the wedding party to attend) it seems that it would be less daunting to petition the necessary dispensations if we avoid mixing the process between faiths.
