Do we have a list of the books that were used in preaching/teaching prior to Carthage or Hippo that did not make it into the canon? Seems like I’ve seen this somewhere but I can’t find it.

For now I’m not aware of any list out there, but if you’re asking for books which some orthodox early Christians (as opposed to, say, gnostics) used and even considered to be authoritative but eventually weren’t canonized I’d name the Apocalypse of Peter (note: there is also a gnostic work with this title), the Didache and the Shepherd of Hermas as three examples.
