Hi all,
Was hoping that someone here could help me out with a question from my wife.
She is a convert, and is lately wondering if some elements of the faith are real. Specifically, she thinks a lot of what the early Christians did was just to take pagan practices or customs or stories and dress them up in Christian attire (her undergrad degree was in Clasics, so she looks heavily at early Greece here).
For example, last night she brought up the idea of Jesus having God the Father as his dad, and wondered if this was just the same old thing as what happened with Hercules or Pelias or any of these guys who had a god for a father and a mortal mother.
My point to her was that folks throughout history (including current non-Christian religions) have received glimpses of the truth to varying degrees, and have incorporated these incompletely into their stories, but that this revelation only came into full realization or clarity in Jesus, but she wasn’t having it. I think she needs something more.
So my question to you all is: does anyone know of any good resources to help her with the issue of similarities between pre-Christian classical mythology and Christianity, and the idea of the latter copying from the former?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
