Precious Blood Spill

It seems like in the majority of churches I’ve been to, about roughly 30-50% of the laity do not request the chalice of our Lord.
This makes no sense to me. Why would someone not want to receive the Blood of our Lord?

if i was Pope, i’d make all churches require marble floors. cleanup problem solved.

I always receive the Sacred Species from the chalice, but I would make a point here: anyone receiving the Most Sacred Body “alone” is also receiving the Most Precious Blood in the Sacred Species of the Host. Likewise, if one were only able, for whatever reason, to receive Communion from the chalice, one would be receiving not only the Most Precious Blood, but the Most Sacred Body as well (blessed be Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar).

It was the heresy that one had to receive both Sacred Species for Holy Communion to be valid or operative that lead the Church to forbid the Chalice to the laity. We need good catechesis to avoid this same error today (we need good catechesis anyway!). I’m not saying that you subscribe to this error, so please don’t be offended, but I think it’s helpful if we try to be as precise in our language as possible: to receive one of the Sacred Species is to receive Christ wholly and completely, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Well, the spill of the Precious Blood occured on a stone floor. No carpet stains at all. However, I am appalled that this accident even happened.

By the way, someone suggested a lid for the chalices with a small opening for the mouth.

Thank goodness they did not suggest a sippy cup with disposable straws!
