Preface at mass this morning?

When I was at mass this morning the priest used the Preface of Easter II. Shouldn’t the Preface of Easter I be used everyday thru Sunday or is it just optional? I know that during the 5th week of Lent the rubrics call for the Passion I preface but priest still use one of the Lent Prefaces.
 
My ORDO calls for Easter Preface 1 until the end of the Octave of Easter. Other Easter Prefaces can be used starting on Monday.

I’m curious, and if this is too off-topic please ignore, but I’m wondering if your question arose because of:
  1. the actual prayer, i.e. the actual celebration of the liturgy or
  2. your knowledge of the rubrics
Just a thought that struck me.

Since he answered #2, my guess is that he knows Preface I is supposed to be used for all of the Easter Octave and, since he’s heard it often enough, he knows how it goes. So when he was listening to the priest pray the Preface today, he heard something different. He investigated it and asked here. That’s my guess. That’s what I’d do…

Yes, only Easter I during the Octave.

The rest of the Easter season either preface might be used.

Perhaps the priest simply didn’t notice that. Happens sometimes.
 
Well, we used the first Easter preface over here, but instead of saying “on this Easter day”, the Bishop used “on this Easter season”.

Minor problem, but there’s a reason why it is the Easter octave…
 
This morning we had a retired priest who is part of our parish celebrate mass. He helps out occasionally but its been a while since he celebrated the mass I usually go to. When he celebrates this is how the preface goes

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Almightly Father We praise you with greater joy than ever on this Easter Season…

He used the preface of Easter I.
 
The preface for Easter I changes wording depending on whether it is the Easter Vigil, Easter Day or the Octave of Easter.

Easter Vigil: on this Easter night
Easter Day: on this Easter day
Octave of Easter: in this Easter season.

The preface for Easter II reads exactly the same as the preface for Easter I (Octave of Easter) until paragraph 3.

You are right Easter I (Octave of Easter) should have been used for today.
