A little background: I’m a 41 year old mom of 2 preteens. Over the years I’ve struggled with hypertension, eating disorders, depression and anxiety. My health issues, along with marital problems (unfortunately), kept me from having more children. (In an ideal world, I actually would have loved to have more children).

Now, unexpectedly, I’m pregnant. I should be overjoyed, but I’m terrified!

I feel that I’m in no shape, physically or mentally, to carry a child. My body has been damaged by years of taking heart medication, not to mention my eating disorder. (I was just taken off the medication a few days ago.)

I haven’t even told my husband yet. He was not open to having more children. He isn’t Catholic, and doesn’t understand what is wrong with using contraception. He respects my faith, though, and has been practicing NFP with me. Now, he’ll be furious to know that NFP “failed”.

I so want to believe that God is in charge, and that He will guide my husband and me through whatever comes our way.

I’ll truly appreciate any prayers.

Praying to Our Lady of Guadalupe for you to have an uncomplicated pregnancy & safe delivery of a healthy baby. Praying for you & your family. God bless.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon Anthony(name removed by moderator) in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular Anthony(name removed by moderator), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

God will give your family the graces you all need- trust in Him.

Prayer to St. Gerard

O almighty and everlasting God, through the Holy Spirit, You prepared the body and soul of the glorious Virgin Mary to be a worthy dwelling place of Your Divine Son. Through the name of the Holy Spirit, You sanctified St. John the Baptist, while still in his mother’s womb. Hear the prayers of your humble servant who implores You, through the intercession of St. Gerard, to protect me from the dangers of childbearing and to watch over the child with which You blessed me. May this child be cleansed by the saving water of baptism and, after a Christian life on earth, may we, both mother and child, attain everlasting bliss in heaven. Amen.

God willed for your child to be conceived.

There is no “ideal world”. Nonetheless, God willed that your want for another child be satisfied.

My mother in law cried at the news of the birth of my third child. She didn’t want us to have more kids, because money was more important (even though I was making $100K) At 40 years of age my wife laments having children too soon (she was 27, 32 and 34 at their births), or at all, and not getting to sew her proverbial wild oats sufficiently. This is after her teen age promiscuity, (being sexually active at 14 and living with someone out of high school), having an abortion before we met and having affairs during our marriage… Nevertheless, God is good - all the time. In retrospect, He gave me in my children greater blessings than I could ever hope or pray for and they are eternal blessings!!!

You will forever and always know how Christ loves you in that He gave to you your children!

Praying for you!

St. Joseph, beg of your divine Foster Son to break the heart of this father for this beautiful new child!

You’re extremely fortunate. Having a child is a great blessing.

Praying that God gives you peace and that your husband accepts the news with grace and love. :gopray2:

I will be praying for you too. My daughter was born when my husband had just started a job with no health insurance. God took care of us though. I had a difficult labor though and ended up with a C section, and because this was a surgical operation they did pay. Please pray to St.Ann, the mother of Mary, as she is a patron saint of expectant mothers. And perhaps to St.Joseph for your husband. If he is still upset at this when your baby is born, there’s always an option of adoption. Abby Johnson adopted a baby from a married mother through an agency which includes the birth mother in the adoption proceedure and if you wish contact with the baby after its adopted.

I’m about your age, similar struggles, and I can only imagine. I have nothing but sympathy, hugs, and prayers for you. Sounds like you’re a loving mom with a good heart and you’re probably worried and nervous because you want only good things for your baby.

Keep me posted. I’ll pray for that things go well physically and emotionally, that this will be something joyful for your family. :hug1:

Remember, O most chaste Spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession was left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power, I fly unto you, and beg your protection. Despise not, O foster-father of the Redeemer, my humble supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement. I truly appreciate it.
I told my husband this morning, and he took the news well- much better than I expected. Knowing that I have his support has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I still haven’t told any other family members, though.

It’s going to be tough on us financially, especially since my husband’s business is still fairly new, and we’ve been working hard to get it running. We are just getting by, as it is…

I still have a great deal of anxiety and worry, due to my age and health problems. (One of the medications that I was taking has been known to cause birth defects. I hoped I stopped taking it in time.) Whatever happens, I pray that the outcome of this pregnancy will be in accordance with God’s will.

Thank you again!
