I like to say this prayer before receiving the Holy Eucharist:

BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION:

I believe, O Lord, and I confess that Thou art truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Who camest into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first. I believe also that this is truly Thine own pure Body, and that this is truly Thine own precious Blood. Therefore I pray Thee: have mercy upon me and forgive my transgressions both voluntary and involuntary, of word and of deed, of knowledge and of ignorance. And make me worthy to partake without condemnation of Thy most pure Mysteries, for the remission of my sins, and unto life everlasting. Amen.

Of Thy Mystical Supper, O Son of God, accept me today as a communicant; for I will not speak of Thy Mystery to Thine enemies, neither like Judas will I give Thee a kiss; but like the thief will I confess Thee: Remember me, O Lord in Thy Kingdom.

May the communion of Thy Holy Mysteries be neither to my judgment, nor to my condemnation, O Lord, but to the healing of soul and body. Amen.

Hope this helps.🙂

Ah, a very Byzantine prayer. Do you say this silently during the Mass right before partaking? Or at home?

How do you prepare for reception of the Eucharist?
May I ask? Are you a Catholic or a member of one of the Orthodox Churches?

The REASON I ask this, is that only they {we} have The Real Presence of Christ in Holy Communion. Others claim too but lack provable Direct Apostolic Succession, which is essential in order to actually make Christ TRULY Present in Holy Communion.

Begin by reading and rereading the biblical evidence:

Mt 26: 26-28
Mk 14:22-24
Lk. 22:17-20
John 6 {entire chapter} BUT especially verses 47-58
St Paul 1st Cor. 11:23-29

Understand through PRAYER that what is being taught is LITERAL

Here is a reliable site {FREE} fora Catholic Bible Commentary that you can use to further explain these PROFOUND passages

And lastly here is a site to peruse and study www,the real presence.com

If you have any further questions please send me a private message and we can discuss them.

PRAY MUCH and God Bless you

I am Orthodox. :byzsoc:

It would not be correct to say that this is limited to the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches, per Canon 844, which specifies that the determination of equivalence rests with the Apostolic See.

THANKS:D

But what I shared is in accord with the magisterium Teachings of the RCC

No. That it is the precise point. What you wrote is not in accord with the Church.

What you wrote was:

That is incorrect for being inadequate in its expression.

This is what the Church teaches with regard to who may approach spontaneously, apart from the other cases dealt with paragraph 4. This paragraph of Canon 844 is formulated as it is in part due precisely to the theological determination of the Apostolic See about validity of sacraments and apostolic succession.
§3. Catholic ministers administer the sacraments of penance, Eucharist, and anointing of the sick licitly to members of Eastern Churches which do not have full communion with the Catholic Church if they seek such on their own accord and are properly disposed. This is also valid for members of other Churches which in the judgment of the Apostolic See are in the same condition in regard to the sacraments as these Eastern Churches.
To be crystal clear: Firstly, not all the Eastern Churches are either Catholic or Orthodox, as should be quite evident and well known. Secondly, you are not correct when you limit, by your formulation, the Churches with valid sacraments and apostolic succession to the Catholic Churches in communion with Rome and to the Orthodox Churches. Rome has determined otherwise.

I like to say this prayer before communion.
We do not presume to come to this thy Table O merciful Lord trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We be not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the Flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his Blood, in these holy Mysteries, that we may continually dwell in him, and he in us, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his Body, and our souls washed through his most precious Blood. Amen.

The best way for me is to concentrate on the prayers of the Mass. Also the meaning of each part.

A few minutes prep before Mass I like to conjure up the real presence of Jesus before me in the Eucharist. And sometimes to vividly recall an event in his life and relive it with him to enhance his reality. Especially the Last Supper. This is a meditative prayer as Mary did when it says, “she pondered all these things in her heart.”
Daniel 3
And now we follow you with all our heart and we revere you and seek your face.

Were there any “official” guidelines given by the Catholic Church for preparing that traditional Catholics follow? I think some things were relaxed post-VII, like the pre-communion fast, right?

It varies regionally in regards to private prayer, liturgically there are 3 pre communion prayers.

In the “North German use” it was/is customary to use a pre communion prayer by Thomas Aquinas privately.

Thank you, Omaestre!

What are these three liturgical prayers?

I like to say a rosary in reparation for my sins, in preparation for receiving Holy Communion and also for the conversion of sinners,

Then I say some pre-communion prayers before Mass such as the prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas, and the prayer of St.Ambrose as well as the Acts of Hope, Faith, Love and Contrition (but these ones are specifically for before Communion from the book Christian Warfare SSPX publication)

Then shortly before Communion in Mass usually after the “Ecce Agnus Dei” I silently pray the prayers before Communion the priest recites in the EF Mass (my favourite ones) and as I walk up to the altar rail I silently pray the Jesus prayer 👍
