I was recieved into the Catholic Church on Sunday, June 27th. I recieved Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. As I think more and more about my actions since that day, I am realizing that I have committed mortal sins since then… I knew I would not remain in a state of grace for ever after I recieved the Sacraments of Initiation, but it never sunk it that I would need to go to Confession once I fell out of a state of grace… Now, I find myself in that position and am searching for a good Examination of Conscience. I have found a couple but was wondering if anyone here could direct me to one on the internet… thanks…

I’m sorry to post again… but I was also wondering about this. When I go to Confession for the first time, is it okay if take a copy of an Act of Contrition with me so that I don’t forget it? I am afraid that amidst my nerves and the realization that I am confessing to someone else my sins, I won’t remember it… any responses are appreciated… thanks again…

This was posted in another thread. It’s an incredibly detailed examination of conscience that I believe will help you very much:

As far as taking an Act of Contrition with you, that’s perfectly fine. Many people bring it on paper, even if they have it memorized. It can help you focus on the words and make a more sincere act. It might also be helpful to write down the sins you don’t want to forget to confess as well.

OF course you can take a copy of the prayers and even a list of your sins. Make sure not to loose track of it. Usually adults are only Baptized at the Easter Vigil unless there is a true pastoral necessity. Examination of Conscience should have been included in the RCIA process. I would find an older prayer book it would have a good examination of conscience. You never know what you will find on the internet.

And, be sure to let your confessor know that it’s your first confession and when you were baptised; especially if your confessor isn’t the priest who received you. Nearly all priests will be very helpful and assist you in making a good confession.

I stayed away from the confessional because no matter how hard I tried, I could not memorize the Act of Contrition. Finally, I had to go in and confess my sin of pride in not being able to memorize the the Act of Contrition.(plus my other sins!) My priest, usually a stickler, was very kind and helped me out tremendously. I pray that you will be as warmly received in the confessional, Megan. Welcome HOME! God Bless
