Preparing for dying

Hi all.

It’s possible that I’m not long for this world. I may only last a few weeks. I’m just wondering the best way to prepare for a Catholic death? I’m trying to bravely accept my fate, but I am unsure how to prepare for it. Thank you.
 
Firstly, may God bless you and give you strength for the journey.

If I were in your situation, I’d be sure to get the Annointing of the Sick. The graces from that sacrament will certainly help you. I’d also talk to my priest about anything I was concerned about spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. I’d make sure my family / parish knew what my wishes were. I’d also spend some meaningful time with family and friends. Finally, I’d draw as close to God as I could. I’d seek comfort in his loving embrace as much as I could.

Call a priest. Get the Anointing of the Sick and make a good confession. Talk to him about receibing communion if you’re able. Stay out of mortal sin.

Pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy. Put your trust in Jesus.
Pray also to Mother Mary and St. Joseph.
St. Joseph is the patron of a good death.

I will pray for you.
Also ask the priest if he can have some Masses said for you.

In addition to the advice already given, speak to your priest about any preferences you have for your funeral, any arrangements, or ask any questions you have, and perhaps give him your personal contacts.

Please know that you will be in everyone’s prayers here on CAF. May God bless you with a peaceful and restful death when it comes. “Be not afraid.”
 
You are in my prayers as well. Excellent advice has been given. May we all die a holy death and meet one day in heaven.
 
May God bless you and keep you. I recommend getting anointing of the sick and making a good confession. Don’t let fear overtake you. When you feel afraid, just think about what being in the presence of God will be like and getting to meet and hug Jesus and Our Lady. You are in my prayers
 
Nothing to add but my prayers. All great advice. I think of the words spoken by Father Emil Kapaun, an army chaplain and POW in Korea when his captors took him to his death. He told his fellow soldier prisoners, “Do not weep for me. I am going to where I have always wanted to.”
 
Judging by your username, you must be young. Hugs. The best advice was already given. In addition, more practical things like getting your affairs in order, writing a will, etc.

Jesus promised: ‘Anyone who prays the Divine Mercy chaplet. At their hour of death I will appear to them not as Just Judge, but as their Merciful Saviour.’

Ever hear of the Three Hail Mary’s Archconfraternity? It was approved by the Popes. It is saying 3 Hail Mary’s each day. In honour of the Father’s Strength, the Son’s Wisdom, and the Holy Spirit’s Merciful tenderness. Our Lady told St Gertrude and St Mechtilde that anyone who keeps this tradition, that she will appear to them at the hour of death in such splendour as to grant them all the graces of dying with the grace to reach Eternal salvation.

The Catholic Church teaches: anyone at the hour of death, receives a Plenary Indulgence (complete remittance of sins/ purgatory) each time they say: ‘Jesus, Mary’

The Three Hail Marys and the Divine Mercy Novena are two very beautiful, peaceful prayers. They will bring you closer to Our Lord. God bless you x
 
Thank you very much for your kind advice and prayer intentions. I am in my early thirties, so this is unexpected. I am trying to accept my fate bravely and hope to meet our Lord Jesus. I hope I have been a good and faithful servant to Him.
 
However I will add that I am scared. I wish I can be completely brave, but I cannot be. The prayers you have suggested will help me get in the right mindset. Thank you.
 
I will keep you in my prayers Dugtrio. Ask for Jesus and Mary to be at your side to comfort you, your Guardian Angel to never leave your side, and Holy Spirit for strength and words when you cannot find them. Sending you a big virtual hug.
