Is it licit for the Priest to say “Blessed are you, Lord, God of all Creation. Through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer” instead of doing it separately? Also is it licit to say “Pray my sisters and brothers that our sacrifice as symbolized by this bread and wine may be acceptable to God the Almighty Father”?

No.

And next time he does it, throw a copy of Glory and Praise right at him. See if you can hit him right between the eyes.

That’ll learn him. :tsktsk:

No. But don’t throw the Glory and Praise. With the cost of oil going so high, it might be needed for --ahem–heating purposes.

Seriously, the “symbolized” line especially is one that needs to be dealt with immediately. First, get the GIRM (you can find it online, just Google), print it, bring it to the priest with the proper passage (it’s down a bit after the Liturgy of the Word) highlighted, and express your concerns as per your right according to the Church to have a valid Mass. If he does not correct his wrong, go to the bishop and if necessary the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (you can find info on your bishop at usccb.org, and I think that they have the addresses for the CDF at the end of the GIRM, if not, Google “Vatican” and when you access the site, hit “English” and you should be able to find the addresses easily.

This is SERIOUS error on the part of the priest at BEST and disobedience possibly to the point of heresy and apostacy at worst; and quite possibly invalidates the entire Mass if the priest during the consecration is doing so “symbolically”.

Hmm,
The sacrifice is a real, holy, and living one, as mentioned mentioned in Eucharistic Prayer 3. Flannery O’Connor once said to someone when the Eucharistic was referred to as a symbol “Well if it’s a symbol, to Hell with it.”

I think he means the bread and wine symolize our sacrifices (good works, sufferings, etc.) that we are offering up. I don’t think he means that the Eucharist is merely symbolic. Hence, it would still be a valid Mass. Although we are also offering up the bread and wine to be Consecrated so they are not merely symbolic, right?
