Are there any present-day actors you would plunk down money to hear their reading of the Good Book? I wouldn’t mind hearing Anthony Hopkins, who is one of the best around. Sure, he was Hannibal Lector, but he’s so different in his roles and to hear him in a Shakespearian-type approach would be wonderful. Lion In Winter -era Hopkins comes to mind. I also like Kenneth Branaugh, even though he sounds a bit young, but he has a fine voice.

Your thoughts?

I’m assuming you’re asking for our favorite narrator…I am not a Star Trek fan, but I think the best one would be:

Leonard Nimoy

I heard him narrate an IMAX film and I thought his voice had so much depth.

What puzzleannie said!

Then I did a quick Google check and he has already done a reading of the KVJ New Testament.

James Earl Jones - no contest
I’ll second that! He was my IMMEDIATE choice. He could read the phone book and I’d be spellbound.

Peter Coyote has a cool voice… I think I spelled his name right ><

Martin Sheen. Wonderful voice. My wife gave me a book where there were meditations read by Sheen. I just found it, it’s The Jesus Meditations, by Michael Kennedy.

John

Martin Sheen. Mel Gibson.
Somebody who actually believes in what they’re reading…

Already my choices.

I wouldn’t want the Bible to be read in a ‘foolish manner’. But just to ‘hear’ a small portion, what if it was done by Elmer Fudd? (get him to prounce all those genealogy names in Matthew 1!

Peter Coyote reminds me of Henry Fonda’s voice. He would be good. And James Earl Jones just has such resonance. I can see him narrating the passage where he commands the sea to part during Exodus or in Genesis when God said, “Let there be light”!

James Earl Jones for the “male” sections and Cicely Tyson for the “female” parts.

Tom Cruise or John Travolta … maybe they will learn the truth about their cult (Sciencetology) in the process.😃

Both good choices. Also: Charlton Heston.
(“Take your stinking paws off my people you d@mn dirty Pharoah!” :rotfl: )

How about Antonio Banderas?

If we’re talking Star Trek, how about Patrick Stewart? (‘Captain Picard’) I always thought he had a cool voice.
