During daily Mass, should the priest be standing at the foot of the alter waiting for the presenters to bring up the gifts or should the presenters be at the foot of the alter waiting on the priest to come down to the foot of the alter to receive the gifts?

It doesn’t matter who gets there first.

I wonder why anyone would think that it matters.🤷

I ask because I have been elected to choose who takes up the gifts during daily Mass. It’s been going fine for years not mattering who arrives first at the foot of the alter. However I was recently told by a church staff member that the presenters are to arrive first and that’s the way it’s to be done. So I wondered if the Church had a standing on this.
Thanks Fr

I just wrote “It doesn’t matter…”

I thought that would make it clear that the Church does not “have a standing on this.”

Again, it does not matter who gets there first.

If people are of different opinions and think some decision needs to be made, ask the pastor how he wants things done. It’s his decision to make, assuming he can be bothered to make one.

Whatever the priest wants is what you should do.

In my parish, the people chosen to bring up the offertory gifts are asked to be present in the back ready to go while the collection is taken up by 2 or 3 other ushers. One usher will give out the bread to 1 person, wine to the other. The priest gets up and stands in front of the altar, and he will generally give a look to the gift presenters to make their way up the aisle then he will give the wine to the pastoral admin then he will take the bread up after he thanks the presenters. In my parish, our ushers are asked to pick at least 2 people or a family as people arrive for Mass unless there is a special occasion brought to their attention by the priest or pastoral admin like a baptism where the godparents are chosen as an example.

In my parish the priest goes to stand in front of the altar and waits for the gifts to be brought to him.

I remember several years ago we had the Archbishop emeritus filling in as we were between pastors. He didn’t come to receive the gifts, he directed the gift bearers to come to the altar and present the gifts at the proper time as he said the prayers.

I notice you said daily Mass… around here, the gifts are sitting at a side table next to the altar during daily Mass; there is no presentation (per se).

Same here. In fact, I was just going to post that I was surprised that there is an offertory procession in the OP’s parish at daily Mass. It would cause a bit of a problem at our parish’s daily Mass as we don’t have any servers ready to take the gifts - the priest would have to go back and forth.

in my parish, no one brings the gifts during the daily Mass; they are already on the credence table.

I had totally missed the part about this being daily Mass. No offertory procession at daily Mass in our parish either.
