I’ve been struggling with impurity (like everyone else) for a long time. I went to confession yesterday after 6 days of purity (longest period for quite some time 😦 ) Anyways, the night before I had had very many disturbing dreams of an impure nature. The next morning I woke up and being so influenced by these dreams thought to myself: “I can just commit impure actions and go to confession in a half hour.” And thus I did so. When I went to confession I confessed my sins of impurity as well as presumption. The priest (He’s practically a saint  ) gave me some advice and moved me deeply. His words caused me to see some the ugliness of my actions, maybe Jesus gave me a glimpse of what I look like to Him. While he was saying these things I felt a deep contrition. I felt so awful. I felt and saw what I really was. I was so horrified at myself that I had presumed on God’s mercy. After confession I felt moderately peaceful. But later upon reflecting upon the horror of my state I began to be afraid. Afraid that I had done something wrong by going to confession with too little preparation, too little sorrow. I fell awful. As I write this, though, I feel a peace coming into my soul. Is everything going to be fine? Pray for me. I am a miserable excuse for a human.

PATER NOSTER,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Will you also pray for me!

I did that too once. Committed a mortal sin, knowing I had confession in an hour. I went to confession, and my priest stood me up. He had a doctors appt right before my confession and they ended up admitting him to the hospital. So, I lived in mortal sin for weeks until I could confess again. Valuable lesson learned.

Hang in there…I will pray for you.

Be at peace, God has indeed forgiven and forgotten all your sins. He truly knows that you love him. You should read “The Dialogue of St. Catherine of Siena” for I felt just as you do and this book opened my heart to what I was feeling.

God, who is infinite, wishes for infinite love and infinite grief. Infinite grief I wish from my creatures in two ways:…through her sorrow for her own sins, which she has committed against me her creator; in the other way, through her sorrow for the sins which she sees her neighbours commit against me.

…carry yourselves with true patience, with grief for your sins, and with love of virtue for the glory and praise of my name

…by the increase of love, grows grief and pain, wherefore he that grows in love grows in grief.

Actually, you are a pretty normal example of a human. You are also a beautiful and beloved child of God, your Father, who has given you the Grace to clearly see your actions and faulty thinking and also granted you the peace of His love and forgiveness. So, you are a blessed human.

What your brain does while you are asleep is not your responsibility, BTW, so keep a Rosary by the bed and grab that lifeline as soon as you wake and start prayin.’ 😛

Aren’t we fortunate that God is so much Greater than we are? What opportunities He gives us to see how deeply we are loved. May you find peace and comfort in your relationship with Our Lord. Amen.

Thank you all for your great responses! After I wrote the post, the Lord touched my heart and I saw clearly. There is nothing better in the entire world than to be in the state of grace. 😃

I it always good to be sorry because you let Jesus down and because he loved you so.
It is true to say that on his cross he saw each one and each of their sins he was dying for.

But as far as forgiveness in confession, if you had fear of hell, that is enough for a good confession.

Be at peace.
