Okay, so I was just surfing the net for some Christian websites/blogs, and I came across an article (a few, actually) that read that presumptuous sin (a sin that is committed with the person betting that God will forgive them later) is unforgivable, no matter what that person does.
Is this true? I thought any sin (besides refusal to repent from mortal sin until death) was forgivable. What if the person who committed the presumptuous sin felt truly sorry and remorseful afterwards? Would they receive forgiveness if they went to confession and apologized sincerely?

Yes, they would be forgiven. Presumptuous sin is only unforgivable if the person persists in their presumption, meaning they never actually repent of it.

The idea of an unforgivable sin is that you take it all the way to the grave. “I’ll sin, I can’t help
it, but God will forgive me no matter what,” is a very problematic train of thought to hold, and
if you die with it, then go to Jesus with a big smile and big expectations, Jesus could possib-
ly say, “I never knew you, depart from me.”

What we ought to do is have faith and trust in Jesus, cooperate with Grace, repent
when we sin, seek confession, and there we have security that Jesus is our Savior.

It’s all about attitude. Do you take Jesus for granted, as a “Get Out of Jail Free” card, some-
one who just refinances our debt to God? Don’t presume salvation, do not take advantage of
what Jesus did for us, but turn to him because because only he can save us, for we all help-
lessly subject to the way of sin, but we want to NOT sin.

Here’s some fun imagery now!
We can always count on Bleach to wash accidents from our unmentionables (it happens
people…), but that shouldn’t mean we can all just relax and “accident” whenever we want.
