is there a way to prevent conception?

I heard there was such a thing in use for those who have dealt with rape. this really exist?

Abstinence prevents conception 100% of the time. Other than that I couldn’t tell you. You might be thinking of the Plan B or “morning after pill” for rape victims but as far as I know it DOES NOT prevent conception, only implantation. Therefore it causes an abortion, not prevents ovulation.

Abstain. Many couples use NFP so they can abstain for a week or so and then continue relations.

I woman who has been raped might be allowed to take the “morning after pill” (aka “Plan B”) if it can be absolutely determined that she has not ovulated. Otherwise, there is nothing that can be done.

Plan B, or morning-after pill, is designed to stop ovulation. It is controversial as to whether or not it also may act to prevent implantation, in the case that ovulation has occurred already and the egg was fertilized. Some experts say it does not prevent implantation, other experts say it is possible. In situations where a woman has been raped, an ovulation test or ultrasound may be used to see if she has already ovulated. If she has not, doctors in Carholic hospitals are allowed to administer Plan B, or MAP. This is done to protect her egg from the rapist’s sperm.
This has been a frequent topic in the Moral Theology forum, and there are links to the documents with medical directives to doctors in Catholic hospitals and also to theological commentary.
The OP specifically mentions rape, so that is why I offer correction here. Abstinence does not work for rape victims, nor are they required to be open to life as a consequence of rape, though if they do become pregnant, they are not allow to abort the baby conceived by that act.

Do what I do… ask if you could…

I don’t remember all of the discussion, unfortunately. however, the details were that the drug would prevent sperm cells from entering the egg. I could be wrong. it might be something else
