I am 17 and on holiday with some of my friends. One of my friends went to Catholic school but she says herself she is not really a practising Catholic. I went to Mass this morning and asked her if she wanted to come, but she said she probably didn´t want to go to the morning Mass. I have asked her again if she wanted to come to Mass again with me (and maybe the other non’Catholics) in the evening, but I don´t think she wants to.
I really want to encourage her to go to Mass, but as she told me that she doesn´t go to Mass every Sunday, I feel like I should say something to her about receiving Communion (as she told another of our friends this week that she can receive).
I feel partly responsible for her receiving Communion/potentially not going to Mass/.
But then again I think that I do not know her heart and perhaps she does not know it is a grave sin to miss Mass on Sundays.

What should I do? make one more attempt to convince her to come to Mass and then if she says yes to talk to her about the Eucharist? Any help much appreciated.

She is responsible for herself.

It is great that you care so much about your friend! Have you told her skipping mass on Sunday is mortal sin? That is about all you can do besides being a good friend and praying for her. Let her know that receiving while in a state of mortal sin is one of the worst things she can do. Let her know with gentleness though. Do not fret because she is responsible for herself.

OP i get where you’re coming from, i’m currently going through the grim process of having my family not accepting my conversion, ridiculing me, treating me like i’m insane etc but all i can do is try to accept them as they are and be a witness but not preach. Its gut wrenching seeing them commit sacriledge each week but half of them dont even know its a mortal sin, plus they’d laugh at me+ i dont wanna come across as judgemental but they know i go to Confession+ i dont hide my beliefs.

Thank you everyone for the kind replies. In the end we did go to a Mass (which turned out to be the vigil for tomorrow, oh dear!) but she didn´t receive Communion (neither did I as I felt too unprepared and I had gone earlier). She did tell me that she wants to go to Confession when we get back, so I am hoping everything will turn out well!

Thanks all again. Bethany I will pray for you and your family.
