I have been wearing the scapular medal for quite a while, partly because I thought for a long time that the wool irritated my skin. I’ve purchased a new scapular, and I would love to wear it, but I don’t want it to leech dye all over my shirts and turn them pink (I’ve even had black clerical shirts get stained by scapular dye; clerical shirts tend to be made of flimsy material that fades quickly, so they are quite susceptible to this). Does anyone know of a good way to either get the excess dye to leech completely out so this isn’t a problem, or else to lock in the dye so it won’t leech?

Thank you kindly.

Try running it, a couple times, through your regular laundry, with similar colors, before you wear it.

I read adding a teaspoon of ground black pepper works too.

Shout makes a color guard sheet. The vinegar and pepper ideas are probably cheaper though.

We use the “color guard” sheets in the laundry, if we aren’t sure if something is going to transfer dye to other items in the wash. They work great at catching dyes on the color sheets.

There are different brands out there, and we have tried them. They seem to work about the same. 🙂
