Today when I was in mass, the priest hesitated when giving me the Eucharist. I haven’t been to his mass in about a month since I was home for Christmas break, but I’ve been going to his mass since the beginning of the school year so I’m a familiar face. When going to receive communion today I did the same thing that I always do. As I approached I bowed my head, then when the priest said, “The Body of Christ,” I made eye contact and said, “Amen,” like I always do. I did say it pretty quietly, but I think he would have been able to hear me or at least, since we were standing face to face, see that I was speaking.
He went to put the wafer in my hand, then paused, looked at me, and proceeded to put it in my hand. It didn’t cause a disturbance to mass but it was a little awkward and I wasn’t sure if I did something wrong or what. It may have been nothing, but I just want to make sure I’m taking communion properly.
