Mr. Matt Slick of the CARM, says," I confess my sins to God. he forgives me (1John 1:9). I don’t need a Catholic priest to be my mediator of forgiveness. I need the true and High Priest, Jesus. He alone is my mediator…" How true this for all Christians Catholics included ( although he is sincerely convinced they are not Christians!). But he must obey Jesus who will send him back to the priests. (Mathew 8:2-3, Mark 1: 40-41, 43-44, Luke 17: 11-14). Luke 15:11-31 , has the errant son confess his sins not only to God but to his father even though he knew it is only God who forgives.He must convince Christ that he doesn’t like them. The lepers had no choice. Christ had cured them. He still send them to the priests.
 
Clearly Bible says to pray for each others sins, Jesus gave the apostles ability to forgive sins, etc.
But, we can and should pray to God for forgiveness.

If confession is not available to us, a perfect contrition may be satisfactory.
 
Some things Biblical are a little mysterious to me. This is not. One of the First things Christ spoke of to his Apostles after his resurrection. " If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained," (John 20:23). Confession is an institution and Sacrament clearly mandated by Christ.

Someone who wants to obey Jesus will obey the fact that He instituted the priesthood and He gave us the Sacrament of Confession as the ordinary means to be forgiven.

One who disregards the Sacrament of Confession likewise disobeys Christ.

Slick Matt is guilty of the sin of presumption. He has never heard any words of absolution and so presumes to be forgiven. Since he also denies the necessity of water baptism, he is not only his own worst enemy, but also of seeking souls whom he leads astray.

In each and every case in the scriptures where Jesus forgave sins, He told the sinner in plain Aramaic that their sins were forgiven. Reference: Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20 and 7:48.

Slick Matt is even more ignorant of scripture. In 2 Corinthians 2:10, Paul forgave sins in the person of Christ - with the authority of Christ. Poor Slick Matt! As well, Paul urged the Corinthians to be reconciled to God, and that he had a ministry of reconciliation - God as it were appealing through Paul for the Corinthians to be reconciled. 2 Corinthians 5:20

Too bad that Slick Matt apparently can’t read.
