Priest Answers Question: Should We Honor Old Testament People Like Moses, Isaiah, and King David as Saints and Pray to Them or Seek Their Intercession

As I recall in 2 Maccabees, the Old Testament saints Onias and Jeremias interceded for Judas Maccabeus from heaven. We don’t know if OT saints would intercede for us because few Christians would think to ask them.

Because they are in Heaven, they DO intercede for us, there is no doubt of that in Catholic Theology.

The fact that few Catholics look to them for special intentions, does not mean that they do not intercede.

At the very least, Catholics named after them,( all the Davids, Adams, Rachels and Sarahs in the pews) experience their intercession in the same way that Catholics named after SS Peter, John, Clare or Theresa would.

They are on the Liturgical Calendar of almost all Eastern Church - Catholic and Assyrian/Orthodox. They are on the Latin Calendar as well, usually as a second class commemoration (if I remember the term correctly)
 
OT saints are part of the Roman Martyrology, although they are not on the General Roman Calendar. They each have their own dates and can be commemorated. In fact, St. Elijah, prophet, is a Solemnity on the Carmelite calendar (July 20th).

Do you think the saints that we might be named after (David, etc) automatically intercede for us without being asked, just for their namesake?

It’s good to remember the OT saints. They tend to get shunted aside like some red-headed stepchild.
 
Really fascinating. I’ve never considered seeking their intercession. I feel like I’ve missed out.
 
Of course we can and should. All in heaven can intercede for us.

Speaking of OT saints, don’t forget Adam and Eve.
