…and again…a week or 2 ago an Italian priest was murdered whilst saying his Mass by a young Turk crying “God is greater” …The priest was stationed in Turkey.
English is my first language. I said what I meant.Don’t you mean, may the Lord forgive them?
ok. It is just that I had previously had a long conversation with a poster here about the differences between Judaism and Christainity when it comes to forgivness.English is my first language. I said what I meant.
Many here, including fellow Catholics, would disagree with my response. Steadfast, by the way, is Lutheran.ok. It is just that I had previously had a long conversation with a poster here about the differences between Judaism and Christainity when it comes to forgivness.
I, for one, am opposed to the war in Iraq. I think the US government is morally responsible for many of the death caused by this war too.without taking anything away from the horror that was visited on this priest, and making no excuses for the people who did this terrible thing, I’d like to know what everyone’s view on the war in Iraq is. As I’m sure we’ve all heard by now, a new report estimates that 650,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the US invasion. In a country with a population of about 30,000,000. Where does that put the United States, morally?
Here’s a few articles which discuss the Vatican’s response to the Iraqi war. The Church has an axiom, as the Pope calls it:In antoher thread, Ex Nilo (sp?) and I were discussing Solomon and he stated that Solomon’s actions regarding the building of pagan temples led to the deaths of perhaps millions of children. So what are our responsiblities for the consequences of our actions in Iraq?
Here’s some other responses from the Church too…‘Peace remains possible.
And if peace is possible, it is also a duty!’
This is what some Muslims do on the side.In Iraq Fr. Paulos Iskander who was kidnapped a few days ago was beheaded wednesday. The terrorists, of course, had demanded a papal apology. Ironically he was an Assyrian priest. But I guess any kaffir will do in a pinch when it comes to beheading. May he rest in peace and may his murderers be brought to justice. Do I hear any apologies from Islam?
Thanks Ex. I know the Christan right is not the catholic Church, but, if you know, how are they reconciling our actions in iraq with their support of Bush Admin. Vatican Strongly Opposes Iraq War
US President George W. Bush and his advisers nearly ignored the Vatican when it pulled out all the diplomatic stops to convince the U.S. to avoid invading oil-rich Iraq. The resulting occupation of the country has opened up a big gulf between the Popes and Washington if I recall correctly.
There’s an even larger collection of Catholic responses concerning this topic. The Vatican has not been silent on this matter. They are very aware of the suffering which has been caused by the US-Iraq war-- and the popes do not support the violence perpetuated by the US on Iraq in the name of democracy.
Of course not. I guess i felt uncomfortable about painting Islam as a violent bunch of animals when we are in the midst of committing violent acts on a much larger scale.I’m opposed to the war in Iraq as well.
But this doesn’t mean Christians deserve to be raped and/or beheaded or that American journalists deserve it.
Before we start bashing Muslims (again), do we know for sure this is an act of Islamic fanatics?I do not expect a mass apology from Islam. Mohammedanism is a very savage system that is populated with many demons.
Ok lets step back a minute. Who are removing heads from Christians? Fanatics? Ok, And of all the heads that have been removed of what religion are the head removers? Muslim and…, I guess that it. I cant think of any who are not Muslim doing these things can you? Before we start bashing Muslims (again), do we know for sure this is an act of Islamic fanatics?
My apologies, didn’t notice the link. At the same time, no that much butchering is done in the name of many groups out there, some of them equally claiming to do the work of God or whoever they worship. All of it is equally abominous before the sight of God.Thanks for the correction, prayforwisdom.
prv - Please read the link provided by prayforwisdom. It is very clear that this butchering (they cut off more than just the head), was done in the name of Islam.
Well, actually, there are people south of the U.S. border who also do their own head-cutting. Whether or not it has to do with religion is irrelevant, as they will all get the same judgement at the resurrection.Ok lets step back a minute. Who are removing heads from Christians? Fanatics? Who? The Yanamamo in Brazil? The Jivaro? Apples and oranges argument. One cannot compare the customs of a tribal society to those of a civilization that preserved ancient Greek texts when my ancestors were worried about Norse raiders. Apparently it is acceptable to excuse this Islamic barbarism, and that is precisely what it is, barbarism. It has everything to do with religion - where is the outcry from the Muslim world? I can guarantee that if this was done by Catholics, there would be a great hue and cry - from Catholics. This is being done with nary a comment from the overall Muslim community. Beheadings in this day and age? Barbaric psychological warfare.Well, actually, there are people south of the U.S. border who also do their own head-cutting. Whether or not it has to do with religion is irrelevant, as they will all get the same judgement at the resurrection.
Are you really serious? How can you compare this relatively remote tribe and their customs to a worldwide movement? That is like comparing a gnat to an elephant.Well, actually, there are people south of the U.S. border who also do their own head-cutting. Whether or not it has to do with religion is irrelevant, as they will all get the same judgement at the resurrection.
I’ve got a bridge I’d like to sell you.As I’m sure we’ve all heard by now, a new report estimates that 650,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the US invasion. In a country with a population of about 30,000,000. Where does that put the United States, morally?
We could have avoided 650,000 civilian casualties if we chose not to invade Iraq. Our military has made the greatest effort in the history of warfare to avoid civilian casualties. There is no way to completely eliminate them. We even prosecute those who violate the roe. I don’t see the terrorists doing that or treating pow’s very well. They intentionally murder civilians, prisoners, and anyone else they don’t care for. There is NO equivalence between the US and the terrorists. None.
