Priest/confessor being transferred

On my first confession in 10+ years, I had an amazing confessor for Reconciliation. We just found out he will be being transferred over an hour away. He has been amazing each time I’ve been to confession, and has touched my soul. I almost started crying when I found out he was leaving.

I pray that I’ll be able to find another Priest who touches my soul like he did; if not, I"ll be making an appointment with him. I’m a little nervous, because that confession and subsequent ones have really made a difference in my spiritual life.

It sounds a great blessing. Rather than look for someone else, why not just continue with him and schedule confession once or twice a month?

I agree with just scheduling something with him regularly. If you’re in a pinch, any priest will do, but it’ll be good to have some dedicated time with him. You may even be interested in asking him to be your spiritual director.

It’s not uncommon for someone to make an appointment with their spiritual director, and do Confession/Spiritual Direction/dinner in one swoop.

I say wait and see who God sends your way. About 6 years ago, I had just started making frequent use of the sacrament of Reconciliation (more than once a year) when my confessor was transferred a half hour away. I was so sad. Although, I visited with him a couple of times after that and still touch base by email on occasion, I decided to see how my new pastor would be at confession.

The first time…nothing special, but nothing too bad. The second time, a little better. About the third time, he was hitting the nail on the head. Six years later he is a wonderful, wise, awesome confessor.

Each confession I"ve made since that night, were amazing, not at all like I remember from before. I also went while I was on the road, far far away, and he was also very good. I would be a little panicked if my ‘other’ confession with a different priest hadn’t went well; it did, even though his first language gave him a heavy accent, and seemed to think in his native language before speaking to me in English. I could feel Jesus speaking to me through them each time.

As I said, I may drive the over an hour to see him (unless it’s 2 hours, I’m not exactly sure), but I’m also going to look at this as an opportunity to grow and see another priest. He wasn’t my ‘chosen’ confessor, but just always happened to be the one I saw; he also had responded to my email I had sent to the parish before I went the first time. We are very blessed to have many Catholic parishes in the area, with various Reconciliation times. I never knew the benefit of seeing the same Priest each time, until now.
