I am a new member and I hope I am using the right format.
This morning I asked Father to hear my confession. He said he didn’t have time because there was a funeral after daily Mass. He said to come back on Saturday. That would mean I wouldn’t be able to receive Holy Communion until the Easter Vigil. I feel that I have commited a mortal sin and I am very upset. I went to the Parish in the next town. The priest was not there because today most priests go to the Chrism Mass at the Archdiocese. Thank you. . .

All I can say is that most parishes will have a scheduled reconciliation service during Holy Week. I’d research that option locally.

A lot of priests are unfortunately stretched very thinly. Check to see if there is another parish nearby that offers regularly scheduled confession times.

I’ve researced to find confession during Holy week. The only day is Monday and that being yesterday I have to wait until Holy Saturday! Thank you+

Have you said an act of contrition? If not, say one with as perfect of contrition as you can and entrust yourself to God’s mercy.

Are you sure there are no penance services available? Many parishes have them on Wednesday before the holy week festivities begin.

Perhaps call ahead to one of the neighbouring parishes and see if you can get an appointment with a priest for tomorrow or Thursday. You might have better luck than just dropping in.

I know our priests have scheduled time for confessions tomorrow and Thursday, and will hear by request throughout Holy Week, but you do have to work with them a little bit to accommodate very busy schedules.

Unfortunately, the three closest parishes to where I live do not have confession until Saturday.

Yes, I called a neighboring parish and asked the secretary to please have Father call me. She said " I’ll leave him a message but I can’t promise."

Wow! I actually have done that but I worry that if I receive Holy Communion with a mortal sin on my soul It would be sacriligious. I don’t know what to do.

You won’t be able to receive communion, but it is a good practice to do if one cannot go to confession. Think of the mortal sin like a leak, and the act of contrition as sticking a piece of putty over it. The pipe is still broken and needs to be fixed (confession), but it has stopped. For now.

Yes, it is. . .I just feel very sad. . .it’s 3:32 EST and I never got a call back from the parish in the town over. I’m just going to ask Father after tomorrow’s daily Mass. Thank you+

You have exercised due diligence. Be at peace. If you are in the state of mortal sin, and cannot receive until the vigil because you need a confession and can’t find a priest until Saturday, so be it.

If, God forbid, you should die before then, do you really think our God of mercy would separate you from his loving embrace. I think not, and hope you feel the same.

Rejoice in the Lord always!

This is Holy Week, no priest has the time to do confession. This is the busiest week of the year for priests. I’m actually surprised any parish will have confession available Holy Saturday. If you can’t go to confession, then refrain from receiving the Eucharist this weekend. It’s not a life or death situation.

My Dear Hereiam,

Thank you for your consoling email. . .I am so happy that I found this site.

May God grant you your heart’s desire. . .I will offer a rosary for you this evening.

With Grateful Prayers,

This isn’t a universal truth. All of the priests in my parish are still happy to hear confessions through Holy Week. You might have to be flexible and patient, but they’ll fit you in.

My parish priest is hearing 3 hours of Confessions on Holy Thursday and Good Friday…

I’m pretty sure that’s normative. Those services are usually packed. We have confession during Holy Week and the priest had said he will be as available as humanly possible.

But he’s one of the good ones.

Thank you so much…i appreciate your prayers, and will pray for you!

Our Deanery has already held 15 penance services. You’re going to be hard-pressed to find a priest available during Holy Week.
Keep praying an Act of Contrition, and receive happily at the Easter Vigil.
You might try the Chaplain of a Catholic High School. If there is a monastery near you, go there.
